Warriors Arise: May 30, 2021
Genesis 39:20 (NKJV) Then Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.
Have you ever been in a situation where you have said, "There only way to go from here is up." You realize at that moment you are as far down as one can go. Starting all over at the bottom. Jospeh had been in that place. He had been his father's favorite, causing his brothers to hate him. This hate grew to the point they sold him into slavery and told their father that wolves had eaten him.
As a slave Joseph made himself valuable by doing everything he could to serve his master. In turn, his master set him over everything but what he would eat that night. However again, things took a turn for the worse. His master's wife wanted to lie with him but Joseph fled. When addressed about the situation he was thrown in prison. While in prison he served the prison ward. He was allowed to walk around and tend the other prisoners. In each situation, he gained the trust of the people he worked for. He was faithful even when it seemed like God was nowhere to be found. It seemed like God had abandoned him. However, he would not allow circumstances to dictate his behavior or defile his integrity.
While in prison he interpreted two dreams, one of Pharaoh's baker and cupbearer. The interpretations came true. Two years went by and Pharaoh has a dream. The cupbearer remembered Joseph. Joseph is brought from the prison to the palace to interpret Pharaoh's dream.
Genesis 41:25 (NKJV)Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do...
There are times we think things are going in completely the wrong direction from where God has told us we would go, from the calling God has told us we would fulfill. Could there have been a different way for Joseph to be positioned to save his family? Absolutely. But God knew the hearts of men(and women). He knew what Joseph's brother would do so God had a plan. That plan was to position Joseph in Potiphar's house. God knew what Potiphar's wife would do, so God positioned Joseph in prison to hear the dreams of the baker and the cupbearer. God gave Pharaoh the dream, reminded the cupbearer of Joseph's dream interpretation gift, and caused Joseph to be called out of the prison.
Genesis 41:37-44 (NKJV) So the advice was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants. 38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. 40 You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” 41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” 42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph's hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. 43 And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried out before him, “Bow the knee!” So he set him over all the land of Egypt. 44 Pharaoh also said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.”
The years leading up to this is like a chess game between the enemy always trying to steal Joseph's destiny and God strategically countering the move. The difficult part is that their chess pieces are not make of wood, plastic or metal. They are people. People who make decision. People who have to agree with the call of God on their life, carry integrity, be faithful even when it seems like God is not, and wait for God to bring to fruition His plan for their life.
You may feel like you are in a live chess game. You know what God has called you to do but you can't see how you will ever be positioned to walk in your destiny. But God. God makes a way. No matter what the enemy does to sabotage God's positioning, if we will remain faithful in character, God will make sure we achieve the destiny He has placed inside of us.
Father, I ask for You to come and minister to my heart. I confess I have felt like I am a chess piece. Too many times it seems like the enemy is winning. I may think I am moving toward the call You have placed upon my life and then the enemy comes out of nowhere and moves me back into corner. It looks like he has all the control. But then I look to You and see that You are about to do something miraculous. Just like You did by bringing Joseph from prison into the palace. Joseph was not a slave any longer. Joseph was in command. Pharaoh told him no one could do anything unless Joseph said so. God, I pray You would give me wisdom for when You position me to live in my destiny. I pray I would remain faithful to You, representing You in whatever position I hold. I pray I would serve those above me well. I pray I would honor those with me. I ask for the tenacity to be faithful to the calling You have placed on my life. You are for me and will not allow Your word in my life to fall void to the ground. What You hav said I would do You will position me to accomplish in Jesus' name amen.
