Today is Your Day, part 23

Warriors Arise: June 1, 2021

Esther 2:8 (NKJV) So it was, when the king's command and decree were heard, and when many young women were gathered at Shushan the citadel, under the custody of Hegai, that Esther also was taken to the king's palace, into the care of Hegai the custodian of the women.

We know Esther became queen. However, she didn't know that was going to happen. She did not have a word from the Lord. No one came and prophesied over her. Her parents were no longer living. She was being raised by her cousin who was old enough to be her uncle. She had known loss. She could still follow the ways of her Lord and worship God. But then the decree from the king came and Esther, because she was a young maiden, she was taken away. Everything in her life was about to change. She would not know what the outcome would be but she would never be able to go back to the way things were. But God was with her.

Esther 2:15 (NKJV) Now when the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his daughter, to go in to the king, she requested nothing but what Hegai the king's eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her.

Esther received counsel from the king's eunuch. It can be difficult to trust someone you do not know, even more difficult to trust someone who does not believe the way you do. Her willingness to be advised brought her favor. She is a teenager. It can be extremely difficult for teenagers to take advice from anyone; however, she operated with integrity. Something about her had set her apart from the beginning. As she received advice, giving honor to the king's eunuch, she gained favor in the sight of all who saw her.

Esther 2:16-18 (NKJV) So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. 17 The king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. 18 Then the king made a great feast, the Feast of Esther, for all his officials and servants; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces and gave gifts according to the generosity of a king.

This is pretty astounding. Esther gives honor and then receives honor. She honored the king's eunuch. Which reminds me of the following verse.

Matthew 25:40 (NKJV) And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

I would think if the king trusted his eunuch to prepare the virgins he would trust his counsel. It would not surprise me if the king's eunuch had made mention of Esther in some way. Esther had shown the king's eunuch honor. She had taken his advice. Does it mean the other girls did not take his advice? Maybe they already saw themselves as above him. but Esther treated him with honor. If the king's eunuch received the honor then how much more would she honor the king?

In a day she was taken never to know what would become of her. Yet, in a year, after preparation and, finally, presentation to the king, she is crowned his queen. Be a person of honor. Receive advice from those who God has placed in your life to position you where He is leading. God brings people into our lives who are to assist and counsel us to be positioned in His plan.

Father, there are situations in our lives that we cannot control. However, if we knew the end we wouldn't want to control the situations because we would know that You are working all things together for our good. I pray I will trust You to work things our for me, in my favor. I ask to be honorable; therefore, I give honor to others. I pray I see the value in all people no matter their status, education, position, etc. I desire to honor others. I desire to listen and be advised in the truth. I pray You would put people in my path who will be there because You are setting them in place to help me be positioned in Your plan. I desire to be in the very place You have for me. I desire to do great exploits with You. I ask to be a person of honor to all people in Jesus' name amen.
