Warriors Arise: June 8, 2021
Ruth 2:19-23 (NKJV) And her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gleaned today? And where did you work? Blessed be the one who took notice of you.” So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, and said, “The man's name with whom I worked today is Boaz.” 20 Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “Blessed be he of the Lord, who has not forsaken His kindness to the living and the dead!” And Naomi said to her, “This man is a relation of ours, one of our close relatives.” 21 Ruth the Moabitess said, “He also said to me, ‘You shall stay close by my young men until they have finished all my harvest.’ ” 22 And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his young women, and that people do not meet you in any other field.” 23 So she stayed close by the young women of Boaz, to glean until the end of barley harvest and wheat harvest; and she dwelt with her mother-in-law.
Ruth did not realize the significance of whose field she had found favor but Naomi knew. Naomi gives praise to the Lord. She realizes God has not forsaken her. Ruth was willing to come and serve Naomi, making sure she would be taken care of. As Ruth submitted her desires to sere Naomi, God has seen to take care of Ruth. God led Ruth to the fields of Boaz. Ruth could have gone anywhere but she didnt' go just anywhere, she went to the very field of Boaz.
When Ruth left Naomi that morning she declared that she would find favor in the fields where she gleaned. We have the ability to bless our day. Ruth wasn't even a Israelite but she had been with Naomi and her family for long enough to know they bless their comings and goings. Just because Naomi and her husband left Israel doesn't mean the abandoned their heritage nor their faith. If they had rejected their faith, Ruth most-likely would not have called favor upon her day, finding favor with whose fields she gleaned. Ruth 2:2 So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.”
Ruth understood she needed favor and they needed food. She would need to pick up as much as possible so they would have grain for the entire year. She had no time to lose and she went to work right away. Ruth was not looking for handouts. She was looked to provide, to be a blessings to her mother-in-law. She had listened to Naomi over the years and trusted her. There is no way she would sacrifice her future and put herself in a position of being rejected if she had not known the love of Naomi, her son and their God. She understood the blessings their God bestowed upon their people even in the midst of loss. First Naomi lost her husband then she lost her sons.
Ruth did not come from a people who had a god that loved them. I wonder if she married into the Israelite family because she wanted a chance for a different future for herself. She wanted her children to be of the chosen people. She wanted her family to be loved by God. She wanted to be blessed and not curse. She was from Moab, of the people who tried to have Balaam curse the Israelites but God would not permit His people to be cursed. She knew their God could reverse a curse. If the king of Moab sought to place a curse upon the Israelites what was their culture like? Were they the first to have vudu dolls, cursing those they hated? Did they curse their children? Curse each other? They believed in the ability to curse. Maybe Ruth didn't want to live life cursed. Maybe she wanted her life to be different, to be blessed as God had done for His people. She readily declared favor upon herself as she is about to go out into the fields to glean. How many times has she heard Naomi tell about the blessings of God for the faithful of His people. Ruth positioned herself to be faithful to Naomi and to her God.
Deuteronomy 28:1-14 (NKJV) “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: 3 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
4 “Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. 5 “Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. 6 “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. 7 “The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. 8 “The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you. 9 “The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways. 10 Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you. 11 And the Lord will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give you. 12 The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. 13 And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them. 14 So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
We are to be people who are faithful to God. We are to position ourselves to serve others and be a blessing in their life. There are times we are to leave behind things and people who will not embrace the things of God. Then there are times we are to lay hold of what we have heard of God and declare what He has promised into our lives. What has God promised you? As you go to serve others, declare favor upon the work of Your hands.
Father, I thank you for Your abundance of blessing upon my life. You have set before me how You are going to bless me. I pray that I would believe the blessings You have placed upon my life. I want to be open, willing and full of faith to believe You will bless me life. I want to be open, willing and full of faith declaring Your blessing upon my life. I want to be open, willing and full fo faith as I declare Your blessing upon the work I must do to day and each day. I will read through the blessings and align my thinking and my heart with what You have promised. I pray my attitude would align with Your blessing as I serve those in my life. I will give honor to each one and work to serve them with diligence. This is my day to be blessed by Your promised blessing in Jesus' name amen.
