Today is Your Day, part 31

Warriors Arise: June 9, 2021

Ruth 3:1-5 (NKJV) Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you? 2 Now Boaz, whose young women you were with, is he not our relative? In fact, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. 3 Therefore wash yourself and anoint yourself, put on your best garment and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. 4 Then it shall be, when he lies down, that you shall notice the place where he lies; and you shall go in, uncover his feet, and lie down; and he will tell you what you should do.” 5 And she said to her, “All that you say to me I will do.”

I just got done having a talk with Selah, my 12 year old daughter. She wants to try out for the Fall play next year but she is afraid. We worked through what she is afraid of and then ended the conversation with this point, "Give people a reason to say, "Yes" about you.

Ruth has been faithful to serve her mother-in-law and to go out each day to glean in the fields of Boaz. Ruth gave her mother-in-law a reason say "yes" to her. She left her home, her people, her god and embraced her life in Israel serving Naomi and providing for them. In turn Naomi wants to do something for Ruth. She is saying "Yes" to a new future for Ruth. Ruth had to put aside what she was afraid of. She was a foreigner and not just any foreigner, she was a Moab. Her people had tried to curse the Israelites. When hat didn't work, they sauced them so God would become angry with them. But Ruth was different. She needed to not live in the view of what others thought of where she came from or whose people she used to belong. She had left her people and who she used to be when she became a part of Naomi's family. She solidified it when she dedicated her life to serving Naomi and returned to Israel with her.

Ruth 3:6-9 (NKJV) So she went down to the threshing floor and did according to all that her mother-in-law instructed her. 7 And after Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was cheerful, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain; and she came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down. 8 Now it happened at midnight that the man was startled, and turned himself; and there, a woman was lying at his feet. 9 And he said, “Who are you?” So she answered, “I am Ruth, your maidservant. Take your maidservant under your wing, for you are a close relative.”

I think my heart would have jumped up into my throat! There is no way I would have slept a wink! I am not sure if I could have been still for as long as Ruth. Thoughts would have been running through my head. I would have played through a dozen or more ways of how this would have happened and how I should respond. I would have come up with multiple responses. Oh the agony of waiting for him to notice that I was there! How many times that night did he move before he recognized she was there? But thank God, he finally did!

Father, it is so difficult to put myself out there! I would have much rather been working in the field than waiting until I was noticed. I love to take care of people and serve, but when it comes to promoting myself I struggle. I have to live what you shared today. I have to live in such a way to give people a reason to say "Yes" to me. I have to position myself before them. I have to get myself ready and make myself known. I ask for You to lead me to the people I am to impact for Your kingdom. I ask for You to guide me to who I am share what I have to offer. I ask for You to open up opportunities for me, for my future to prosper. Today is my day to position myself for people to say yes to me. Today is my day to be guided by You. I will not allow where I have come from hold me back. I will not live in the prison of my former self. I will be all You have created me to be. I will be in alignment with all those You have put in my life. I will serve others with all You have done for me. You are my God and I will follow You and be guided by You. You are for me to be positioned for great things in my future in Jesus' name amen.
