Today is Your Day, part 36

Warriors Arise: June 14, 2021

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

If we really knew the power of our words we would speak less and with more precision. We would truly say what we mean and not allow the words of our mouth to be flippant. However, we might not be so loose with our words if we knew how to use our words to bless our lives, a situation, and the lives of others.

Ruth 4:11-12 (NKJV) And all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses. The Lord make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem. 12 May your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring which the Lord will give you from this young woman.”

One thing most people know about Hebrews is their strong belief in the importance of blessing. They speak a blessing every time they enter the home. They bless business opportunities, their workers, their boss, their travel, their spouse, their kids, their wife's womb etc. They have an understanding most of us can't even comprehend. We think they are just lucky or catch all the breaks; when in fact, it is that they, as an ethnic group, understand and apply the power of the blessing.

Take a look at the first time we see Boaz in the book of Ruth.

Ruth 2:4 (NKJV) Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!”...

Boaz blessed those who were working in his fields. And they received the blessing. How do I know? Because of their response.

Ruth 2:4 ...And they answered him, “The Lord bless you!”

Someone who doesn't receive a blessing will not respond, shrug it off, or rebuke it without even knowing. They might say, "What does that mean? How will that help? Where does that apply in my situation?" Someone who doesn't know how to receive a blessing will try to deny it or brush it of.

We are the navigators of the blessing. It can either fall to the ground as nothing, completely voided out or it can be received to empower us in the area in which it was given. Boaz understood he when he blessed his reapers, he was blessing himself as well. If they receive the blessing then their work, health, safety, and families will prosper. If they are blessed in these areas then he will not be short of workers, they will be healthy, no harm will come to them and their families will support their work. When the lives of his workers are blessed he is blessed. In turn, as he blesses them, they respond with a blessing into his life.

When the people and the elders at the gate pronounce a blessing over Boaz becoming the kinsmen redeemer of Naomi and Ruth, he receives their blessing.

Ruth 4:13-15 (NKJV) So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and when he went in to her, the Lord gave her conception, and she bore a son. 14 Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without a close relative; and may his name be famous in Israel! 15 And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.”

Boaz received the blessing and God gave Ruth a son. She gave him to Naomi. The name of Boaz is famous and so is Ruth and their son, Obed. Obed is King David's grandfather. So much more to this part of history. Just think, David might not have been born if Boaz had not stepped in to be Ruth and Naomi's kinsmen redeemer. The power of the blessing received can change your life. Today is your day to give a blessing. Today is your day to receive the blessing.

Father, You are amazing! This concept of blessing others is unfamiliar to me. I ask for You to continue to speak to me about the importance of giving the blessings and receiving the blessing. I want my words to be filled with life. I want to bless others, the work of their hands, the calling on their life, their health, and they relationships. I do not want to use my words to bring death to their dreams, relationships or life. I pray to get familiar with blessing the lives of others. I want to be more than one who encourages others. I want what I say to bless them, to prosper them in their health, the work of their hands, and the fulfillment of their dreams. I ask for the Holy Spirit to teach me how to bless. I pray for boldness to speak forth the blessing. I will not reject someone blessing my life. I will not judge whether there is truth behind what they are saying. I will receive the blessing and give one in return. Guide my words. I want to go beyond speaking kindly to empowering a person's life with the blessing in Jesus' name amen.
