Today is Your Day, part 38

Warriors Arise: June 16, 2021

Joshua 1:1-9 (NKJV) After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. 5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

This passage of Scripture is so real to me. I know people encourage one another with the second half of 5 and all of verse 6; however, when we read it in it's entirety there is so much to be said. Even though Joshua had been there for Moses, with Moses and by Moses, it doesn't mean he wanted Moses' position. It doesn't mean he wanted the authority Moses to have to deal with all the problems and complaining heard on a daily basis.

Maybe Joshua felt like he needed a direct word from the Lord before moving forward. Moses, himself, had told Joshua, he would lead the people into the Promised Land. God told Joshua he would lead the people into the Promised Land. However, they knew that it would not be just leading them into it, there would be battles.

Moses was called to lead the people to meet God and then into the Promised Land. When the people rejected the gift God had prepared for them they condemned Moses, Joshua and Caleb to 40 years of wandering in the desert. Joshua was going to have to lead the people differently than Moses. In order to fulfill what God was giving them they were going to have to fight. There would be battle after battle.

Joshua knew his leadership would be to finish what Moses had started. He would have to lead them to take the land and remove the people. It was quite the task before him. The children of Israel were not people of war. Nowhere do we see they had been training for war. They did have to go to battle a couple of times in the wilderness when Moses was leading them. In the thick of the battle, Joshua called for God to make the sun stand still so the battle could finish. At that time, he had Moses up on the ridge lifting his arms to heaven, raising his staff. But Moses was not here. Joshua would pick up where Moses left off. He would lead the people to fulfill the plans of God for their lives.

Today is your day to pick up and step into what You have been positioned to do. It is your time to listen and be lead by God to fulfill your destiny. It is your day to lead using what God has put inside of you.

Father, I have watched others lead and I do not know how they have accomplished so much. I do not know how they got through discouragement without having it overtake them. You were with them and I am asking for You to be with me, speak to me, lead me. I position myself before You. I want to hear You as You spoke to them. I do not want to take this position without Your presence being with me and Your word directing my path. You have been faithful in my life. I look to You. You have equipped me; yet, I have no scope for what this will look like as I step forward on the path You have before me. It is an honor to serve You. It is a privilege to be called forth at this time. I pray I will seek You every day throughout my day. I pray I will know Your favor and give You the glory and the honor. I pray I recognize Your voice and Your presence. No matter how long I lead, I want to always look to You, position myself to hear Your voice and be ready to follow exactly what You say in Jesus' name amen.
