Warriors Arise: June 27, 2021
Matthew 4:8-10 (NKJV) Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
Fall down! Really, you are asking Jesus to fall down! Not a chance. Even when Jesus died on the cross, no one killed Him. Yes, they tried. They put a sack over His head and hit him. He was caned. They whipped Him with the cat of nine-tails 39 times, beyond recognition. A thorn was beaten onto His head. He was hand and feet nailed to the cross. And yet, He still breathed. He was still living. But they didn't kill Him.
Matthew 27:50 (NKJV) And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
The definition of yield is to reliquish possessions of something. Jesus possessed His spirit. He could NOT be broken! However, it was time.
John 19:28-30 (NKJV) After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
This was not over until Jesus said it was over. His body was in immense pain. It is hard to believe, at this point, He was conscious. He decided when it was over. The battle was won and the Tempter could do NOTHING about it. Jesus knew the end game. When the enemy is tempting Him in the wilderness, Jesus already knew the outcome of events. The enemy would no longer hold the domain over the earth not God's people. The idea of falling down to worship someone reminds me of Joshua.
Joshua 5:13-14 (NKJV) And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?”
14 So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”
And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?”
I wonder if the Tempter saw this? I wonder if He saw Joshua's response and was waiting to see someone respond to him in that very same manner. Doesn't really matter and it doesn't surprise me. Why did Lucifer get cast out of heaven? Because He wanted what God had. If he did see Joshua's response to the Lord, he wanted that same response and loyalty. Nothing had changed in the Tempter. He still wanted what Jesus had. Maybe that is why there are so many Scriptures teach us what is the stay away from jealousy, to get rid of malice, to put off envy? They lead to something that can never be filled within you so don't open the door.
The Tempter was asking Jesus to do the very thing he tried to make happen in heaven when he led the revolt of 1/3 of the angels against God. He didn't win there and certainly wasn't going to win now. This is a game that was finished before it even started. There was no way Lucifer could win.
Be steadfast in who you are and what You are called to do. Stay focused. Do not yield to the Tempter. Embrace the fullness of what God has for you and You will stand before the enemy but you will not fall down and worship him.
Father, You are so very good. I will keep my eyes on You and see You move in my life. I will honor You with my yes. I will not waver nor will I yield to the enemy. When You come I will fall to the ground and worship You. When the enemy comes I will stand in the fullness of Your love and feel Your power flow through me. I will stand. You are my God and there is no other in Jesus' name amen.
