Today is Your Day, part 5

Warriors Arise: May 14, 2021

Matthew 15:21-28 (NKJV) Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” 23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.” 24 But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” 26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs.” 27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

The boldness of this woman is driven by her desperation for her daughter. Think about what you just read. She is not from Israel. She is not an Israelite. She has no claim to the miracles Jesus releasing. This woman recognizes who Jesus is. She does not call Him teacher, Rabbi, or prophet which is what most are saying of Him.

Matthew 16:13-15 (NKJV) When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?

Have you ever thought that maybe your miracle is trapped in your knowing and believing who Jesus is? If it is only head knowledge of who Jesus is and not a conviction within, then do you really believe. This woman not only calls Jesus Lord, but she knows He is of the line of David. She knows. She knows who He is. She has listened to what people have said and she believes. She has seen what He is doing and she believes. She is willing to take what she has been told and believe the miracles He is doing. She is not going to listen to people who do not know.

Matthew 12:24-30 (NKJV) Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.” 25 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. 30 He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

She knows the Pharisees didn't know. How does she know? Because she has seen the effect of demons and it isn't a good thing. How does she know? Because she has seen demons torment her daughter for years!

Matthew 15:22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”

This mother has seen demons up close and Jesus isn't a demon! He is not casting out demons because he is one of them. Jesus is casting out demons because He has the authority over them, there is not power greater than God.

This woman had heard of Jesus and what He ha done for others. She listened to understand the culture. She knew who He was. He was and is Lord. No power of darkness is greater than the power Jesus has been and continues to display. She knows she is not of Israel decent but she must try. She is desperate for her daughter to be free from the possession of demons. What are your kids struggling with? Are you desperate like this woman to believe Jesus can deliver them from demons, restore them from rebellion, and position them on the path to fulfilling their destiny? Are you desperate for your kids to be blessed and achieving the dreams God has put inside of them? This woman knew the life her daughter was living was not the life God had for her. So she did something about it. She crossed all kinds of barriers to seek Jesus and she found the Lord. She called out, asked, over and over again, to the point the disciples want Jesus to send her away. Then we Jesus did speak to her she stepped over the offense that would have knocked most of us down and she knocked right back.

Matthew 5:26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs.” 27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

The Lord had spoken to her and she was quick to respond. She had His attention for one split moment and she wasn't going to lose it. She understood that she had no right to position herself at the master's table, because she was not Hebrew; however, she knew the love of Jesus and honored Him by calling Him Lord. She knew she didn't need to be seated at the table just to get a scrap and a scrap is all she needed. She knew a scrap from the Lord's table would be enough for her. Does that not blow your mind?!

Matthew 5:28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

This woman, it was her day! She had an understanding most of us struggle all our life to get. We think we need more of Jesus, God to hear our every word, Holy Spirit to give us divine signs every time a problem occurs. But this woman, she needed one thing. She needed a scrap.

Receiving a scrap doesn't mean she got less it means she understood the fullness fo the power of the Lord. She didn't need more. Sometimes I think we struggle, because we do not see ourselves sitting at the table with Jesus. When that is our place. God has prepared a banquet for us. We are to take a seat and have our fill. Do you realize you only need a scrap of the mercy of God to be free from the torment of demons?

When we get this understand and let it grow in the measure of faith we have been given, today will be our day to receive freedom.

Father, You are amazing in the mercy You have for us. Thank you for all You do and all You have done. As I read Your Word, I see all You have done for others and it encourages me to believe for myself. I will seek You and find You. I will know the goodness of Your mercy. I will stir up my faith. When I position myself before You I do not need a seat at the table, even though I know You have a place for me, but I do know just one scrap will be enough. Thank You for Your amazing mercy that reaches into the darkness and sets me free. I will receive Your mercy and the power to be free. I will walk with You and know the goodness of You love. I receive all You have for me in Jesus' name amen.
