Today is Your Day, part 9

Warriors Arise: May 19, 2021

1 Samuel 3:1-11 (NKJV) Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation. 2 And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see, 3 and before the lamp of God went out in the tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down, 4 that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, “Here I am!” 5 So he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” And he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” And he went and lay down. 6 Then the Lord called yet again, “Samuel!” So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” He answered, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” 7 (Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.) 8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you did call me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.” 11 Then the Lord said to Samuel...

The day the Lord called Samuel's name was definitely a day to remember. Not just for Samuel but for each us as well. When you read that passage, do you think, "God, will You call my name?"

Before we can embrace God speaking to us we have to believe God knows us.

Isaiah 43:1 (NKJV) But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel:“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.

God knew you before you were born, He had dreams of who you would become, what you would do and how You would impact His kingdom. Just like a parent anticipates their unborn child's destiny, the things they will do together, and who they will become, God has those same thoughts about each one of us.

Psalms 139:13-14 (NKJV) For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

Have you praised God for how He has made you? Your personality? For the purpose He has put inside of you? Your abilities? The talents He gave you? When was the last time you praised God for how He made you? Despising who God has made you to be, is the masterpiece rejecting the master. How can we honor God when we are rejecting who He has created us to be? If we have rejected who He has made us to be then our ears are closed to hearing Him call our name.

When we are at odds with someone, breaking relationship with them because of a disagreement or different belief that is a form of rejection. Think about the relationships where this has happened. You purposely practice not hearing them. If they call, you don't respond. If they are in the same room, you avoid them. If your paths happen to cross you turn your head the other way. Maybe I am the only one who has done this so it definitely relates to me. When God exposed my behavior He also taught me how I do this to Him as well. When I reject Him I have turned a deaf ear to His voice.

God is speaking to His people all of the time. He wants to be involved in our lives. He wants us to guide us through the difficult times and away from danger. He wants ut to hear Him celebrate us and how proud He is when we achieve the dreams He has put inside of us. He wants us to have real conversations not just seek Him when we submit our prayer requests.

Do you know the Lord knows your name? Just like Samuel, God knows Your name. He calls you by your name. He wants to tell you things you do not know.

Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV) Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.

God wants to guide us. His desire is for each one of us to achieve the dreams He has placed inside each one of us. He wants to tell us things so we don't have to live life the hard way every day.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV) Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

God's yoke is easy because He carries most of the load when we follow Him. Like a child who wants to carry what they see their daddy carrying. So they try to go lift it. Daddy will indulge them and pick up the load so the child thinks they are carrying it, but for in all actuality, Daddy (God) is doing the lifting and carrying the load. All we have to do is go to God, He places His yoke upon us and we and are connected. He, being the lead and the stronger, guides us and carries the bulk of the load. We just have to learn to walk in time with Him, move when He moves, stop when He stops, and go in the direction He leads.

When was the last time you know you heard the voice of God speak to you? Will you position yourself before God, quiet your mind, no prayer requests at this time, worship the Lord God who fearfully and wondrously made you, settle your heart and listen.

Father, I want to hear Your voice call my name. Today, I worship You. You are worthy of my praise. I speak peace to my mind and tell it to be quiet. I speak peace to my heart and trust You. I will lift up your name. You are Holy. Today, I come before You and place myself beside You. I no longer want to carry the load by myself. I take up the yoke and strap myself next to You. Lead the way. I want to learn to walk in step with You. I want to stop when You stop and move when You move. I want to go in the direction You are going. I position myself before You, with You, beside You. I ask for You to open my ears. I want to her You call my name. I want to recognize Your voice speaking to me. I place myself before You so I can hear You call my name and direct my path for with You nothing is impossible. As I listen to Your voice and allow You to guide me, I will live in the fullness of life You have for me in Jesus' name amen.
