Trinket Foundations

Warriors Arise: January 7, 2022

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NKJV) “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.19 Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.

I was thinking the verse was 18 so I pulled it up, but I wanted to return to verse 19. However, verse 18 has intrigued me. Before we can know what God is doing in the now is it necessary for us to forget, put away, remove from our mind the former things? Why are we not supposed to consider the things of old?

In chapter 43, God is establishing something new in our lives. He does not want the foundation of our beliefs and actions from our past to be the foundation for what He is about to do. Therefore, we must put aside, be done with, the things of the past. Sure, we need to seek forgiveness and give forgiveness when the Lord brings up something we have done to wrong another. However, what He is doing now cannot be laid upon the foundation of our past. Each one of us was born with a sinful nature, but when we accepted Christ into our lives we were given new foundation He would build upon.

When the Scripture says He will remove our sins as far as the East is from the West, we are not looking for the sins of our past, so He can build for our future. When we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin. Then they are moved as far as the East is from the West. We are a new creature in Christ. He offers us a new foundation, on Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. That other ground is our old self, our sinful nature. We do not want God to build upon a faulty foundation. That faulty foundation is our sinful nature and behaviors before we chose to make Jesus our Lord and Savior. Why go back to remember the past? Forgive others and be forgiven by Christ. Allow them to be removed as far as the East is from the West.

Jesus is enough. He is more than enough. We do not need anything more than Jesus to remove our sins. Which He does graciously, no matter the grossness of our sin. However, one thing we may need to recognize is that Jesus removes the sins of those who have sinned against us. They many NEVER apologize to you. What if we could look at the situation that way, no matter what was done to me, my desire would be that they feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit and make things right with God. Sometimes the apology will never be enough for the damage that was done. We can feel we have a right to demand an apology but I am not sure if we do. I believe when you feel convicted for something you should apologize to the person and seek forgiveness from God, but maybe we think to highly of ourselves to feel justified in carrying the wrongs with us, as if they were trinkets from our past to remind us of what was done to us. Our hearts and minds have trinkets filling the shelves of each little wrong. But were they ours to collect? How can God establish something new and start building for what He has for you when you and I have a foundation with trinkets of wrongs done to us?

When our church, Bethel Grove had to rebuild, everything and to be removed even the old basement walls. Then they layered dirt and different rock. It had to have time to settle, making sure there were not weak spots before the foundation could be laid. God wants to do something new in your life. First, remove all the trinkets of wrongs, hurts, disappointments, and unkept promises? Before they would come lay the new foundation, we were responsible for removing all of the old. Everything had to go. Nothing of the former foundation could remain. Nothing of the former foundation could be used to establish the new one. Remove the trinkets, the thoughts of the past. There is nothing you can do to undo them, they have already happened; however you can remove the trinkets, all of the trinkets so God can do a new thing in your life.

Father, I ask for You to come and minister Your life to me. Take a look inside my remembering. I want everything that is a negative happening in my past to be removed. I release each person who has wronged me and speak forgiveness over them. I ask for You to restore them to Yourself. You are my God. I was wrong to hold on to the hurts of my past. It is why there has been a faulting foundation for You to build upon. I want to be ready for the new thing you are doing in my life. I will yield. I will not hold on to those terrible things from my past. I will release them. I do not need a trophy case of trinkets that only remind me of the pain I have had to deal with. I will remove each one. I pray You would forgive me for holding on to them. I ask for You to heal my mind and restore my heart to be pure and beat with Your compassion for others. I want to be ready for the new thing You are going to do in my life in Jesus' name amen.
