Warriors Arise: March 13, 2023
1 Chronicles 16:7-36 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:
8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
10 Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
11 Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
13 O seed of Israel His servant,
You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!
14 He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.
15 Remember His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,
16 The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac,
17 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel for an everlasting covenant,
18 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the allotment of your inheritance,”
19 When you were few in number,
Indeed very few, and strangers in it.
20 When they went from one nation to another,
And from one kingdom to another people,
21 He permitted no man to do them wrong;
Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,
22 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”
23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
24 Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.
25 For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised;
He is also to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
27 Honor and majesty are before Him;
Strength and gladness are in His place.
28 Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
Give to the Lord glory and strength.
29 Give to the Lord the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come before Him.
Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!
30 Tremble before Him, all the earth.
The world also is firmly established,
It shall not be moved.
31 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
And let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”
32 Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
Let the field rejoice, and all that is in it.
33 Then the trees of the woods shall rejoice before the Lord,
For He is coming to judge the earth.
34 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
35 And say, “Save us, O God of our salvation;
Gather us together, and deliver us from the Gentiles,
To give thanks to Your holy name,
To triumph in Your praise.”
36 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel
From everlasting to everlasting! And all the people said, “Amen!” and praised the Lord.
Did reading this exhaust you? Were you ready for the Psalm to end? I wonder how many read this through. If it was set to beautiful music, a crowd of people celebrating and a sunset background, would that have made it easier to read and appreciate what David shared?
If David were the one delivering his Psalm, I can imagine his expressions and emotion in the telling of God and their history. Did David give this Psalm to the Asaph and then wait for it to be put to music? Did Asaph begin to play and David listen for when to begin the Psalm?
I would have thought this was spontaneous except for the beginning where it says, "On that day David first delivered this Psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren…" David had thought about this, he had written it down. It wasn't like the blessing he spoke over the people. Maybe with the words, he handed the sheet music for it to be a song. The way it is written, I have no problem thinking it might have been the words and music. He wanted them to play and he was ready to sing. We know from his time as a shepherd boy he carried a harp and was known as an accomplished instrumentalist before Saul. He had also planned this day months earlier but it didn't happen them. Finally, it is time and he wants the people to be reminded of their God and what He had done for them.
David had so much he wanted to share with the people. He had so much he wanted them to know, understand, comprehend, receive and embrace about God. There seems to be an urgency for him to make sure the people will know God, the One he loves and follows with all his heart, with all his mind, and with all his strength. This moment won't happen again. This moment is happening know. They know him as a warrior, but now they would know him as a worshiper. Just as these people had given praise to him when he came back from battles Saul had sent him to fight when the women and children would dance and sing his praises, he wanted them to know God is the One to whom we sing praises and praise in dance.
There is such an urgency for David to get the message across. He wants them to remember what God has done for them, what He is doing for them and what He has promised to do for them. How about for you? Do you need a reminder of what God will do for you? Do you need a reminder of what God has done for you? Do you need a reminder for what God is doing right now for you?
Father, I ask You to remind me of what You have done for me. I will wait and listen. I will allow my mind to remember what You have done for me. I will praise You for each and everyone of them. You are amazing. You have done wondrous things in me and in my life. I will praise You for each and every one. I ask You to show me where You are at work in my life. I will lift Your name on high and praise You. You are working things out in my favor. I will sing praises to You. I will praise You for what You are about to do; tomorrow, the next day, next year and to the end of my life here on earth. You are setting things in motion for your kingdom to advance through what You have called me to do. Each day, I will worship You in Jesus' name amen.
