Matthew 4:25 Great multitudes followed Him—from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
There's a valid point to knowing where people came from. We, you and I, were not there. So, how can we believe that Jesus was doing what Scripture says He was doing? How can we believe He was "healing ALL the sick peopled who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics"? Because people do not come when nothing happens. Therefore, something was happening.
Scripture is validated because people came. They had to travel by foot. Not many had horses, only the rich. Many of these people Jesus healed had to be carried to Him. It takes more time when you have to carry someone. These people traveled not just from one city or village, they traveled from other regions, even beyond the Jordan.
I would encourage you to look on a map in the back of your Bible. See how far people traveled. Notice at the end of verse twenty-five is says, "and beyond the Jordan". People traveled form outside of Israel to come find Jesus and be healed.
There is more than a hundred miles between Galilee and Jerusalem. This journey would have taken several days. Why would someone go on a journey like that if they didn't have proof?
There are a few desperate people who have hope to spare. They will be the first to pursue what they have heard. However, for most of us, we would need more than one person's testimony. If we are honest, it would generally take several people that we specifically know who had been healed in order for us to believe.
Would you have gone with only the verbal testimony of someone who knows someone who knew the one who was healed?
Would you need to actually know the person before they were healed in order to believe there was someone out there, somewhere, who was healing all who came to Him?
If we are being honest, most of us would have to know the person before they were healed in order to believe. Most of us would have to know several who were healed before we would make a journey to find Jesus. What we know about ourselves validates what was happening back then.
People traveled a long way because they had proof. Jesus didn't stay for very long at one place, so as they were going they would be asking the people who are returning where He was. Each time they would heard their testimony and it was fuel to the fire of hope within thier heart. Their testimony brought validity to the demonstration of God's love through Jesus in the lives of all who came to Him.
Father, I pray to be one who is desperate for You. It will not take several testimonies to know You are at work in the lives of Your people. I believe Scripture. I believe Scripture validates itself because of the behavior of people during the time these miracles were happening. I need You in my life. I need the demonstrative power of God touching the broken places in me. I need healing; body, soul and spirit. I know the blood of Jesus cleanses me and makes be pure; however, I need the healing of Jesus to rebuild my body, restore my soul, and refresh my spirit in Jesus' name amen.
