Warriors Arise: February 12, 2021
Daniel 5:22-25 (NKJV) “But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this. 23 And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified. 24 Then the fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written. 25 “And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
If Daniel is not pointing when he says, “But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this, I would be surprised. When I read the Bible I allow my mind to come alive with what the person/people look like, their posture, facial expressions and attitudes. When Daniel is brought before the king he is pretty calm and collected but as he gets going and doesn't see an ounce of remorse or submission on Belshazzar's part toward God, I see Daniel's intensity increasing.
By the time Daniel gets to verse 22, I see him pointing or at least gesturing to Belshazzar. When Daniel says, And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven, I see Daniel pointed upward. Belshazzar still is unmoved so Daniel continues as he points to the tables or at the gold vessel in Belshazzar's hand, "They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. Exasperated, Daniel continues, And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know. Finally, with pleasing in his voice, Daniel expresses the truth, the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified. and turns to the wall with his hand extended, Then the fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written. 25 'And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.'"
For the sake of Nebuchadnezzar, I believe Daniel wants Belshazzar to listen up, to receive what God is saying and repent for his arrogance. Daniel knows this is Belshazzar's final warning. Daniel sees the olive branch extended to Belshazzar if he would only take it.
Have you been so desperate for someone to understand their opportunity to turn from evil is right now? At the very moment you are talking to them? You hope they embrace God, surrender their life to Jesus. You are overwhelmed with compassion for them, no matter what they have done, you know God is making Himself available to them in a very personal and straight forward way.
When they yield to God my heart is relieved and encouraged. I know life is going to be better not because anything surrounding them changed but because God is in their life. When we have God in our life everything shifts because God is now a part of the equation. Having God as a part of the equation always brings the benefits in our favor. It doesn't mean life is perfect but it does mean all things will work out for our good.
When I see their eyes gloss over and their body become rigid my heart is wrenched. I know they are rejecting God and all He is offering them. He knows what the enemy has in store for them and His desire is to save them from the snare of the enemy. God created mankind to be in relationship with Him and to enjoy all He created for them. He hurts when we reject who He created us to be and the blessings He created us to have.
Father, I pray You would send Your people to speak to the lost. I pray we would be bold. We pray we would not be intimidated but our position or power. I pray we would stand to offer them hope, wisdom and a way to change their life. I ask for You to strengthen Your people with the Word of God, delivering it with compassion. I pray we would speak the truth and not sugarcoat it. I pray we would be honest about our concerns for them. It is not a threat. It is not manipulation; we share because we care. I ask for You to send Your prophets to the authorities over our country, our states, and our communities. I ask for the Word of God to break the hardest of hearts and become wisdom for the distant of mind. I pray for You will to be done and no other. I pray for each government official to do as You say, to follow Your ways, to protect the American people, and save the unborn babies. I pray for You to meet with those in our judicial system. I ask for each one to get a visitation from You and a sure word for what they are to do. I pray for the legislators to yield to Your will and Your wisdom. I pray they would lay down their personal agendas and fight for the American people. I ask for You to speak to each government official in such a way that they know it is You and no other. I pray they would hear what You are saying and change their ways to follow You in Jesus' name amen.
