Warriors Arise: October 30, 2023
Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
"Let your light shine before others." How does that hit you? Jesus says this in command form. It isn't up for debate. He is giving them permission to shine with His light radiating from them. Somehow, people would be able to look at those who had received from Jesus and know there was something different.
It might even go further than that. Maybe they would know that these people who are shining their light have been with Jesus, the Messiah, the King of kings. Jesus tells them to "let your light shine before others." This would mean we are the ones in charge of determining whether people will see His light within us or not.
Why does Jesus give us the power to make the decision whether we are going to let our light shine or hide it under a basket? What else does He have to do for you and I to let our light shine? Should He have to do anything else? No, but He does. So, why do we not see the light in Christians more clearly and regularly? Do people see the light inside of You? Do strangers walking by see the light in you?
Father, You have given us a decision. It is a command and yet, You give us the ability to make the decision. We have to make a choice to obey and embrace Your command or to hide our light. I pray for remembrance of Your mighty deeds. I pray we would worship You for You have done for us. I pray we would give a shout of praise for Your goodness and provision in our life. I pray we would honor You by letting our light shine in You in Jesus' name amen.
