We Ask This All the Time

Warriors Arise: September 5, 2020

John 21:4-6 (NKJV) But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?” They answered Him, “No.” 6 And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.

I'm curious to know, why the disciples, who did not recognize Jesus on the shore, did not identify His voice nor His term of endearment word "children" would listen to where He said to throw the net. How could the man on the shore know where the fish were going to be?

We tend to see God in that exact position. He is way up there in heaven; while I am way down here on earth. Jesus on shore with no possible way of seeing or knowing where the fish would be, other than that He is God.

  • How could God possibly identify with what I am going through?

  • Since He isn't here, how can He tell me what is the best thing to do?

  • I know what I am doing, why do I need His input?

  • What could He really do?

This possibly represents a person exhausted and coming to the end of themselves. This is a good thing. When I come to the end of myself I'm generally ready to stop and listen. That is exactly the time when I will do whatever God tells me to do. I have worked myself to the point of exhaustion, all through the night doing what I thought would be simple. But simple didn't happen. Simple had no success. But how could God, who is way up in heaven be able to give me counsel, way down here one earth? We may not say it like that but we act like that.

Isaiah 55:7-9 (NKJV) 7 "Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. 8 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts."

When I realize verse 8 and 9 I feel like the wicked referenced in verse 7. I recognize I was doing things my own way, in my own strength, in my personal time. I had not sought God, I did to ask for Him to guide me, strengthen me for the task. Then I bask in God's amazing mercy, knowing He has forgiven me of my sin of self assurance, self provision, and self indulgence. How could I forget God wants to be involved in my entire life, He will guide me in the bet way to handle a problem, complete a task, and resolve a conflict. Even when I don't recognize Him standing in the doorway or His voice in my inner being or remember the name by which He calls me, He knows exactly how to help me. How does God know exactly what we are to do to get the results were are looking for?

  1. God knows us

  2. God knows what we are doing

  3. God knows what we need

  4. God will call to us

  5. God will direct our labor

  6. God will multiply the fruit of our labor

How could He possibly know? Because He is God and God knows.

God knew exactly where Jonah was going to jump off the ship and into the sea. God directed the big fish to that particular spot. God knew exactly where Elijah needed to camp. God directed ravens to bring Elijah food until the brook dried up. Then God provided again. God knows exactly where you are. God knows exactly what you need. God knows exactly how to bring success to what you are doing.

Father, You are amazing. Even when I don't think You see me. You have been watching and waiting for me to come to the end of myself, exhausted, done complaining and blaming. You wait for that moment when my heart will receive a Word from You. You see me in my weakness and you restore my strength with joy. I know people all over America do not think You are close enough to see what is going on. The truth is You have always made Yourself available to us. I ask for those who are angry to come to the end of themselves and see that the damage they are causing to others will never satisfy them. The only thing that will satisfy is You. You can bring peace to anger. I ask for those who are looting and damaging property, statutes and business to be brought back to their right minds. I ask for restoration of mind knowing Your forgiveness and their responsibility for their actions. I ask for those who are fighting battles of sickness and disease, cancer and COVID-19 to see Your standing in their midst ready to give the healing for what they need. Let Your kindness flow from Your throne room and lead us into revival. For Your Word says, kindness leads to repentance. Pour out Your kindness upon all mankind in Jesus' name amen.
