Warriors Arise: August 9, 2023
Matthew 4:5-7 (NKJV) Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”
One of the reasons I believe the Holy Spirit offers us the fruit of patience and long suffering is because the enemy is relentless. He is patient. He will wait. He will persist. He is crafty and conniving. He is persistent; therefore, we have to be resistant (James 4:7).
When the first temptation didn't work, he went straight to another. He didn't seem to bat an eye. He had tempted so many people, and if they didn't fall in sin through his first temptation, he didn't leave, he altered tactics.
We never know when or how the enemy is going to tempt us. The only way to be prepared is to be prepared. If one temptation doesn't work then he will try another. He never comes with just one idea. That wouldn't be worth his time. When he comes, he is ready with different types of temptation to sin.
How can we be prepared for a test we do not know what is on it? We read our Bible, becuase it is the only weapon to defeat the enemy. Therefore, keep in sharp. We learn God's voice, He will give us the answer. We submit to God. We are not trying to win the battle in our own strength. My strength can never defeat the enemy, but the power of Christ in me, the strength of the Holy Spirit flowing through my words, and my resolve to do only as God directs, will defeat the enemy every time.
Father, You have given me the source of power I need to resist the devil. I will remain steadfast to learn Your Word, to know Your voice and do what You direct. I will rise to the battle when the enemy comes. When the enemy comes to pommel me with temptation, one after another, I will stand fast as directed in Ephesians 6, submit to You, as directed in James 4:7, and resist the devil in Jesus' name amen.
