What Happened that Night?

Warriors Arise: May 1, 2021

Daniel 6:25-26 (NKJV) Then King Darius wrote: To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you. 26 I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God, And steadfast forever; His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed,

Darius, the conquering king who overtook the great Babylon. He had been sent by Cyrus. He understood the destruction of kingdoms. Let's keep in mind, he understood the rise and fall of kingdoms. He understood governments and battles that led to wars. He has an understanding of dominion, rule and reign in a kingdom. Darius is speaking from an understanding of the rise and fall of kingdoms.

He decrees to everyone under his dominion, everyone who also has lived through the rise of Babylon, its fall, and then the rise of the Persian Empire. For Darius to have declared to everyone within his dominion that there is a kingdom which shall not be destroyed is not a flippant statement. He knows. He has been given revelation. He has seen God act in such a way that he knows there is no one like Daniel's God. There is no kingdom that can stand without the say-so of Daniel's God. He knows he is in power because Belshazzar rejected to acknowledge and honor Daniel's God. He will not make the same mistake.

Darius has a revelation that is beyond most human comprehension. He sees one act of God intervene on behalf of one man and is completely humbled. He is put in his place, knowing his humanity and recognizing there is One who is second to none. There is One who will have His way. There is One whose kingdom shall not be destroyed. That One is Daniel's God.

Darius has a revelation based on his one experience in seeing God move on behalf of one man. It reminds me of when Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do you say that I am?"

Matthew 16:13-17 (NKJV) He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

Relating Darius' decree to what Jesus asked His disciples makes me wonder what happened when Darius went to his palace and spent the night fasting; and no musicians were brought before him. Also his sleep went from him. (Dan. 6:18) Daniel tells us that angels were with him all night but we do not know what happened at the same time for Darius. Did God reveal Himself to Darius? What happened that night?

Darius decrees things to all his kingdom, everywhere he has dominion and makes some very bold statements. How many of us have seen the miraculous and we still stumble through life questioning some of the simplest things about God? There is nothing said of God meeting with Darius; however, Jesus gives us the answer when He is asking His disciples, "Who do the people say that I am?" followed by, "Who do you say that I am?"

Jesus says Peter could not have come to the conclusion because flesh and blood had revealed it to him. So, Darius did not come to the revelation and decree he sent to the people because of what Daniel told him, he came to this revelation of God because God told him. Something happened that night when he positioned himself before the one living God.

When God reveals something to you, how do you respond? Darius acknowledged God, agreed with God, honored God and declared God.

Father, I stand in awe of You. Darius was not Hebrew, he was a Mede from Persian. He didn't do everything right. We don't even know if he worshipped you before the night Daniel was cast into the lions' den. But You had to meet with him. He placed himself before You. He did what Jesus said we are to do when we pray. We are to go to the secret place and shut the door. We are not to fast before people. Darius fasted in the secret place, behind closed doors. Help me Father to seek You when situations seem to turn against me. He was caught in the trap of the enemy and wicked men. He sought You even when he had no idea who You were. You had to reveal Yourself. You had to speak to him. He had not reason to believe You were alive, real, relational, or reigning in a kingdom that would see no end. I ask for You to come and minister to those in power making decisions for our country. I ask for You to guide them. They may not be seeking You but I am praying and others are praying for You to pursue them with Your kindness, the kindness that leads to repentance. I am asking for truth to be made known and wisdom to abound. I ask for righteousness to be restored to government positions; just like you removed Belshazzar, someone who refused to honor You and You brought in Darius, someone who would seek You even though he didn't know You. I ask for Your kingdom to come. I ask for You to reveal Yourself to those who are lost but are needing You to intervene in their lives. Come and make Yourself known in Jesus' name amen.
