What Happened Yesterday?

Warriors Arise: November 3, 2022

Isaiah 52:12 (NKJV) For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

There is an extreme sense of peace with this passage. They are not going to be in a panic when they go out. They are not going to chased. The Lord will go before them and God will be their rear guard. It is as if they are completely walking past everyone looking for them and as long as they remain in peace, the enemy can't identify them or lay hold of them. Which leads me to be reminded of Philippians 4: 6&7.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

God encompasses each one of us. We are not to be anxious in any situation. We are to bathe our minds in the peace of God. We are to give thanks, for God is going to hear our prayers. Just as tomorrow will take care of itself, when we get there, because God has already been there, God is also in our yesterday.

Think about what happened yesterday. If you could would you change anything about yesterday?

Was there a conflict that didn't turn out well but maybe escalated out of control?

Was there an unexpected bill and you have no idea how to pay it?

Was there a mis-step and you are injured, and are trying to calculate how you could have done this?

Were you around someone sick and now you are concerned you will get what they had?

Did you return to your old sin, because life got too difficult?

Did you sit around instead of getting tasks completed and now you are behind?

God not only is in your tomorrow, preparing for your arrival and working out the crooked places; but He is now in your yesterday. What happened yesterday, He already knew would happen. God already knew what you would do. He knew what they would do. He knew you would have a need. He knew sin would overtake you. God knew how yesterday was going to go down. When He knew how it was go down, He already began making provisions to flip the script, turn the situation around, to protect you from being overtaken by sin, restore the broken relationship, provide finances to pay the unexpected bill, and time for you to get done today what you should have gotten done yesterday. God already knew what would happen in your yesterday. This is why He goes before You into your tomorrow. He already has a way to work things out, pay the bill, retrieve you from sin, and keep you from getting sick.

God does not cause the bad things to happen. He doesn't lure us into sin. He doesn't cause things to breakdown. Bad things happen, because we all have a choice and we generally choose the choice that benefits us in the moment. Sin overtakes us, because we would not submit to God; so that we couldn't resist the enemy and tell him to go (James 4:7). Bills happen, because things break. In all of these, God goes before us to make the crooked places straight but then He also is our rearguard to remind us of His amazing love. He will return to yesterday and prevent the grief, shame, guilt, and discouragement from overtaking us. He wants us to be free from our past and walk in the fullness of our future. He will make a way for us to restore relationships, earn the finances to pay the bill, and build our immune system by being around the sick. But sickness will not over take us; because God's love is abounding. Debt will not steal our confidence. Sin will not steal our testimony. Conflict will not destroy our relationships, because God is our rear guard. He will bring about the opportunity for all to be made right.

Exodus 14:19 (NKJV) And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them.

Father, You are so incredible. To study your Word and see that You go before me into my tomorrow was a huge mind shift for me. Now, I see that You also go behind me. You are my rear guard. You are the one who is telling me to reconcile the relationship breach that happened the day before. You are the One who provided the over-time or extra finances, because You knew the breakdown was going to happen. You are the One who cleans me up from my sin so I have a testimony of Your greatness and love. You are my rear guard and I will love You in my today, my tomorrow and in my yesterdays in Jesus' name amen.
