What Have I Done?

Warriors Arise: September 7, 2022

1 Samuel 18:5-9 (NKJV) So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely. And Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants. 6 Now it had happened as they were coming home, when David was returning from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women had come out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with musical instruments. 7 So the women sang as they danced, and said: “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.” 8 Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?” 9 So Saul eyed David from that day forward.

Truly, David could have been thinking, "What have I done? I have done everything you have asked me. I had to kill ten thousands, because there were so many battles. I didn't kill them for me. I killed them for you, our people, and God. For what God has given us. David and his men should be praised. These women are glad their husbands have returned home. These women are glad their children have their fathers for another day. These women are glad they still have a home and the Philistines have not made it to the city.

Sometimes you can find yourself in a situation where you have done everything you were asked. Those over you may have no idea that they are acting in jealousy. They may not realize they are feeling threatened by your success. Even if they do realize it, we are to honor them. We are to serve them. We are to continue to act wisely, like David. He went wherever Saul sent him. He served Saul well. He served the nation well. He served God well. David had done well.

Father, I desire to serve my authorities well even when they are jealous of my accomplishments. I want to honor them. I want to serve people well. My greatest desire is to serve You well. I will seek You, honor You and serve You in all that I do. I will praise You. I will not be bogged down by the jealousy of those over me. I will keep my focus on serving You faithfully, honoring my leaders and the people with my gifting. You are amazing in all of Your ways. You will keep me in perfect peace. I will not worry about what is next. You are faithful in all of Your ways to me. I worship You and live my life to bring You glory in all things in Jesus' name amen.
