Warriors Arise: February 1st, 2021
Daniel 5:13-14 (NKJV) Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king spoke, and said to Daniel, “Are you that Daniel who is one of the captives from Judah, whom my father the king brought from Judah? 14 I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.
What have people heard about you? The king tells Daniel what he has heard of him. The king does not know Daniel, which seems rather odd to me. Someone so valuable to your predecessor, yet you have no real knowledge of the man nor have you had him in a position to serve among your wise men. Seems odd. But maybe not. As I think of how quickly Biden has replaced the people who Trump had in leading in different positions, I begin to understand how Belshazzar didn't know Daniel.
Sometimes we can be so ready to administer our own agenda that we do not recognize the importance of the people others had around them, their way of leadership and understand what made them succeed. A great nation has to have more than a single leader. A great nation has a nation of leaders. When you dispose of those who aided the leader, along with the leader you aren't really being wise. You are being ignorant in your pride.
This makes me think of the teacher who replaced my dad as the biology and anatomy teacher. My dad retired from teaching and loved every part of teaching. He said he would rather teach than coach and if you know my dad, you know how much he loves to coach. He looks at it as an investment into the kids of the future. He wants them to succeed. When dad retired, he knew the teacher was not going to be able to get new books yet so he left his tests, notes, lesson plans, everything the next teacher would need. He had four tests per chapter. He had two tests per class so no one could cheat. Then he had two alternate tests so the next class couldn't get answers from the class who took the test first. When the new teacher came in she emptied out the filing cabinets and threw absolutely everything away! Talk about being set up to have to do absolutely nothing, but teach! Then she only stayed around for two years and they wanted my dad back.
In our pride, we can make life harder than it has to be. We can be so busy trying to establish ourselves, that we reject what someone else has to offer. When people do not take the time to get to know you, they miss out of what you have to offer. They have no idea what God put inside of you nor what you have done before meeting them.
What have people heard about you? Do they know the Spirit of God is in you? Do they know that light, understanding, and excellent wisdom are in you?
Father, I want to be known as one who has the Spirit of God in me. I ask to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. I want to be active in the gifts of the Spirit of God and producing the fruit of the Holy Spirit. I want what I do to bring You glory. I want Your name glorified. Daniel carried the Spirit of God in him and people knew You, because they knew him. I want people to know You, because they know me. I pray You would speak to me and Your light would shine through me and bring people into Your presence. I ask for understanding. There is so much I do not know but so much You want to share. I position myself at Your feet, in Your presence so I can receive understanding. I ask for excellent wisdom. I pray You would come and touch my mind with Your wisdom. I ask for wisdom, not of my own accord, but because I have been in Your presence; because I know Your ways and I trust You. I pray for Your wisdom to be evident in my life. I ask to be taught understanding and wisdom by You. Come and fill me to overflowing. Breathe on me and open my mind to receive understanding and wisdom from You in Jesus' name amen.
