What Is Your Part?

Warriors Arise: December 23, 2020

1 Samuel 30:24 (NKJV) For who will heed you in this matter? But as his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays by the supplies; they shall share alike.”

This verse makes me wonder. Out of the 200 men, how many were really unable to go any further and how many were left to protect their supplies so the 400 could move faster to find their adversary, the Amalekites?

Think about the amount of supplies they would have had with them. David and his 600 men had tried to join th Philistine army in war but were denied because the Philistines were taking Israel to war. The Philistines were concerned that David and his men would turn on them in the middle of the battle. So they sent David and his men home.

They would have had tents, horses, wagons, food supplies and cooking gear. There is a reason when the enemy loses it may take days to collect the spoils. Men didn't go to battle with just their clothes on their back and a sword at their side. Wars could last months. Remember when David's father sent him to check on his brothers who were with King Saul to fight the Philistines years earlier. Goliath had come out for 40 days and challenged Israel to produce a warrior to fight him. Each side would have had supplies and lots of them. There was no way to know how long the battle would take.

David and his 600 warriors were not going to leave their supplies in burnt to the ground Ziklag. They would have taken their supplies from the battle lines with them in their pursuit of the Amalekites. Some of the men were unable to continue further but that doesn't mean they didn't have a job to do. They were to protect the supplies while the 400 warriors continued the pursuit. There is a reason David left 200. There would have been century posts day and night. They knew the Amalekites were out there and they didn't want to lose anyone nor did they want to lose their supplies. They took the clothes on their back, some food, and the swords at their side the rest they had left.

When David makes a decree, each one had a part. One group was to stay with the supplies, protecting them while the other group continued in the pursuit. David says each part is important and equal. Think of it. If David and his 400 had lost the trail, didn't find the Egyptian Amalekite slave, would they have found the Amalekites. They may have been going father and father away from the 200 they left behind. This would totally leave the 200 vulnerable. They had to protect all the supplies for 600 people and recover. David had 400. He left behind 200. What if the Amalekites had circled back for another city in southern Judah? What if the Amalekites had ambushed the 200? They were sitting ducks!

Each group, the 200 who remained to tend the weak and protect the supplies were actually at a greater disadvantage than the 400 who had were in pursuit. By leaving the 200 behind, David put them at a disadvantage by any captain's war plans. On the move, is always better than being a sitting duck. It is harder to shoot a duck in flight than it is sitting still.

God has a part for each one of us. We are to honor the part each is called to fulfill. But the real question: What is your part?

Our tendency is to offer God what we will give rather than what He is asking. Only you know what part God had called you to fulfill. If you are uncertain, quiet yourself before God and ask Him to share with you again. He would love nothing more than to see you do what He created you to do. He is waiting for You to embrace your part.

Father, I with my whole heart I want to be all in. I ask for You to speak to me. If there is anything You have asked me to do but my heart isn't in it or I have limited two You can use me I ask for You to speak again. I pray my heart is ready to receive Your direction and plan. I am ready to commit 100% to Your plan. Not my will but Thine be done in Jesus' name. You know exactly what I need and how I will be fulfilled. I ask for doors to open so I can fulfill what You have put inside of me to do. I pray for Your lovingkindness to flow to me and through me a I serve You. I submit myself to You. I will give what You ask and not barter for less. I commit to You my best. I will rise up and follow You every day. I come before You to hear Your voice so I completely fulfill Your plan. You place a higher value on myself that I do. You have plans for me. You have not left me. You continue to seek me out and give me opportunities to serve You. Each time I serve You with all my heart I am the one who is completely blessed. I open my ears and position my heart and mind to hear from You and follow what You say in Jesus' name amen.
