When the King Declares Peace

Warriors Arise: April 25, 2021

Daniel 6:25 (NKJV) Then King Darius wrote: To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.

The king speaks a blessing to the people. Not just a specific group of people but to all peoples, nations and languages that dwell on the earth. The Persian empire had an enormous reach. They were not the kingdom in which everyone could understand what was being said. However, this particular situation calls for people of all nations and languages to listen.

There may have been quite the commotion among all the peoples of the earth when the decree had been signed. Did anyone really think that someone might actually have been thrown into the lions' den? At that time, there would have been multiple gods to which people prayed. Who would have thought that anyone would be cast into the lions' den if they had been found to pray to anyone other than the king. Decrees like this had come out before. Who would enforce such a decree?

The people all over the earth would hear about how Daniel, the governor of all the governors had broken the law upon praying to his God instead of to the king. The event of how Daniel was thrown into the lions' den and then alive the next day when the king when to check upon him would have baffled everyone who understood. Can you imagine the reading of the event in each tribe and tongue. Everyone would have been listening, eyes wide and hearts pounding as history was told of that dreadful day.

Who would have thought someone would have been cast into the lions' den just for praying to their god? What kind of a man was this king who declared everyone to pray to him for a month? Did he have the capability of answering their prayers?

The king had come face to face with reality. He couldn't answer anyone's prayer, only Daniel's God. News of what had happened would spread across the earth. There would be an unsettling among all people, a fear run across the land. What happened? What really happened?

Could you imagine hearing of this event? The fear released upon all the people would have enormous. The king released something more powerful than fear. The king declares peace. Not just any peace but peace be multiplied to you. He is not just giving you a dose of peace but peace that is multiplied. Why is this so powerful?

The only thing that can stop fear, is peace. When we are in perfect peace fear is eliminated. Peace is a resting, a settling of our emotions. Peace stops our minds from being consumed with paralyzing thoughts. Peace breaks the bondage created by fear. Think about the first time the disciples see Jesus after He had risen from the dead. They had heard He was alive from the three women who went to the tomb that morning and from the two men on the road to Emmaus. Peter and John had run to the tomb and found nothing of Jesus. He was no where to be found nor was his body. They were afraid. Fear had paralyzed them from going to meet Jesus. Before He died, He had told them to meet Him in Galilee. The angel had sent a message with the three women to tell the disciples to meet Him in Galilee but they are paralyzed with fear. What they have heard is beyond what they could comprehend. Because they could not comprehend what had happened: Jesus was alive and now He is dead. He was dead and now was alive? What was this?

The people all over the earth had heard the decree. Daniel who was trusted among the governors was cast into the lions' den but came out alive, what are they to make of all of this? When th miraculous happens people can be in fear. Fear can arise when we have no grid to describe or explain what has happened.

Luke 24:32-37 (NKJV) And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread. 36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit.

Jesus knew His disciples were afraid. They had not gone where He told them He would meet them. His angels had sent a message and still they had not gone. The two disciples who returned from Emmaus testified of their travel with Jesus and still the disciples had not gone. So when Jesus appears, He address their fear by speaking peace.

The kingdom in which Darius ruled could would have been struck with fear. What great power is this? That a man, who the king cast Daniel into the lions' den, yet lives? Yet, when we believe, fear has no hold on us because the peace that surpasses all understanding lives within us just as He walked with the men on the way to Emmaus.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The peace of God will guard your heart and mind. Your heart will be strengthened and not fail because fear will have no hold. Your mind will not race with uncertainty and confusion because the peace of God gives you confidence, boldness, and courage.

News of what happened would spread throughout the earth, causing great fear. But Darius released something more powerful than fear. He released peace and then blessed the people to receive peace that would be multiplied to each one.

There was no need to be afraid. That everyone should pray, but it wasn't him; it was Daniel's God, the One who could shut the mouths of lions. Wherever people would hear of this event, they would also hear of Daniel's God who could save those who called upon His name. The very peace Daniel was given while in the lions' den is the same peace the king released to all the peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth.

As I close my eyes to picture the peace of God upon Daniel, consuming Daniel as he sees the angels holding the mouths of the lions' shut; it is almost more than I can truly comprehend. Think about it. These lions were not tame, they were ferocious. If the lions weren't enough to cause fear then what about these heavenly beings? The angels were stronger than the lions! Being in the presence of creatures you had never seen before might cause fear.

When history is told, the king wants people to receive peace that surpasses all understanding. The king declares they will have peace multiplied to them. The king wants people to know there is a power greater than fear. That power is peace and peace comes from Daniel's God.

Father, I seek You for peace. Circumstances in my life want to consume me with fear but I look to You. I know You are here with me. I know You have already gone before and made a way. I know You have an answer for the chaos I am in. Your peace gives me the confidence to know that I will walk through this and not remain in it. I will not be held captive by fear. I will look to You and lay hold of the peace that surpasses all my understanding. I need You to minister to my mind. I will not entertain the threats and lies of the enemy. I know You are making a way for the miraculous to happen. I know You will not allow the enemy to overwhelm me with uncertainty. I look to You as I focus my mind on Your peace as I remain in Your presence. I ask for You to be my strength as peace saturates every thought in my mind and every fiber of my being. I will trust You to lead us out of the enemies clutches and into Your pastures of plenty in Jesus' name amen.
