Daniel 6:16a (NKJV) So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions...
Daniel 6:23a (NKJV) Now the king...commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den...
I would like to draw a parallel between Darius, the king, and Jesus as the King of kings. In this parallel I am hoping we, as heirs in Christ understand the authority we are given. When we understand authority, as God's child, as an heir to the kingdom then we realize we have the ability to to release that authority to expand God's kingdom here on earth.
Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV) The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
As the Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, all things are made possible. When we are children of God, we have the authority, even more so than ambassadors. It is similar to an ambassador because as an ambassador we would carry the authority and message of the king. However, it is more than an ambassador because as heirs, we would be able to make decisions that are binding; whereas an ambassador can only do what the king has said. The ambassador must check back with the king for his approval. As God's children we are heirs to the promise; we walk in the authority of Father.
We must understand authority. It is not something to be abused. Authority is to be honored. God does not abuse His authority. Jesus did not abuse His authority. Holy Spirit does not abuse His authority. They offer power, love, strength, courage, wisdom, understanding, opportunity ...etc. These are things every heir in Christ is offered. When we ask, we have the opportunity to access the power of God, love that never fails strength generated by our joy of the Lord, courage to take a stand against he enemy, wisdom beyond our years, understanding without experience, and opportunity through underlying favor.
When the king gives a command, it is to be followed and everyone knows it. Jesus did countless miracles during his 3 1/2 years of ministry.
Matthew 16:13-14 (NKJV) When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
Matthew 16:15-16 (NKJV) He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Do you need to answer that question? "Who do you say that Jesus is?" The "but" is referring to what others have said. Jesus wants to know, regardless of what others say, you are with me, you have seen me go to the Father, you have seen me do all the miracles. They have only seen me do a few but you have seen person after person get delivered, healed, and blind eyes have seen again. You have seen demons go upon My command. You have see the dead come alive. You have seen the wind and waves obey My word. Who do you say that I am?
Who do you say Jesus is? This will change how you approach Him and what you ask.
Matthew 8:5-13 (NKJV) Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, 6 saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” 7 And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! 11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.
The centurion understood authority. He understand what Jesus could do. He did not mince words nor waste His time. Jesus not only returned the honor by answering his request, He marveled at this man's comprehension of the authority Jesus carried. If we understood the authority Jesus carries and has given to us, life would be different for all of us.
John 14:12-14 (NKJV) “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
Who you say Jesus is, determines the authority you walk in.
Father, help me to understand authority. There is a reason why I do not operate in the authority Jesus has given me. I am lacking in either understanding authority or I am lacking in fully embracing being Your child. I need You to reveal to me understanding of authority. I want to be able to apply that to my life. Come and minister to me. Teach me Your ways and to understand Your desire to have me operate in Your authority to expand Your kingdom here on earth. I need You to open my mind that I might understand being Your child, an heir to the kingdom of heaven. I want to know how to release Your will on earth as it is in heaven and to help people get free, live in Your love, and expand Your kingdom. You are not only my God but You are my Father. As Your child, I have the King's authority to set the captives free, those who have been cast into the lions' den like Daniel. I have the authority to speak to the mountains in the way and tell them to be removed. I have the authority to call the lame to walk and the blind to see. I have the authority as Jesus to tell the winds to be still and the waves to stop. I do not represent You as Your child. I do not take on the authority of an heir to the kingdom. Help me to comprehend, apply and release Your kingdom here on earth in Jesus' name amen.
