When the Stone was Removed

Warriors Arise: April 15, 2021

Daniel 6:21-22 (NKJV) Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live forever! 22 My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.”

Daniel would have heard the stone being removed. What do you think was going through his mind? Are they here to let me out? Which one of my kinsmen are they going to be thrown in here now? Were they staking out Shadrach, Mehsach and Abed-Nego? Oh God, help!

In that situation, his mind would have been running a hundred miles a minute. Thinking of what? He knew the king had blessed him and declared God would save him but what would he do when he realized God really did save him?

Was Daniel holding his breath, watching to see if someone else was being thrown in. I am sure I would have been holding my breath. But on the other hand, I might have been screaming my head off as soon as I heard the stone began to move, "Hey, I'm alive! I'm alive! Get the king. Tell him God heard his declaration over me!" I don't know, I might not have been silent. I might have spoken first just so they recognized the miracle before they threw someone else into the den.

Think about the different times in your life when you have felt like the enemy has cast you into the lion's den. Think about your delight, enthusiasm, gratefulness, thankfulness when the stone was removed. When the enemy could no longer threaten you. Are we so worn out from fear, exhausted in the mental strength it took to lay hold of every ounce of faith we had? Have you blocked out those horrible times or do you see that God wants you to remember them as a testimony of His ability to protect you while you were in the den of the enemy? Have you chosen to forget what God has done because of His amazing love toward you, that brought you out and away from the enemy who was seeking to devour you?

I realize I have asked a load of questions but they are necessary. Too many times we get out of the lion's den and want to forget because it was traumatic. The problem is that our mind remembers. But if we will come out of the lion's den and give glory to God for shutting the mouths of the lions while we were in there, everything changes when the enemy threatens us the next time. If we will recognize that there are people praying for us, even nonbelievers who want us to be free from the torment of the enemy, the threat of disease, the shattering of purpose, and the devastation of losing our jobs. If we will recognize the stone will be removed, because God will act on our behalf.

Many times we cannot believe God will act for us in our current situation; we have not acknowledged that He acted in previous times. This is why when the stone is removed we are to express gratefulness to our God and celebrate what He has done. I would like to say, "It isn't going to happen again." But I can't. Just look at the life of Daniel. How many times was he put in positions where his life was going to be taken from him?

When we truly see God as the hero, the One working all things together for our good, the One who was with us in the lion's den and orchestrated us to get free from the grip of the enemy we will be empowered. The enemy cannot hold us captive to fear. We know God is for us, who can be against us. They can position themselves against us but they would be on the wrong side. God is for His people. His love never fails. He sustains us in the darkness and lifts us out of the pit to place our feet on solid ground. He is worthy of our praise, adoration, and gratefulness.

How have you shown Him your praise? When was the last time you saw God move on your behalf and were grateful? What words of adoration have you spoken to God?

Father, You are so good! I do not understand all that You have done and I definitely do not understand why. But I do know, You are worth my praise! I lift up my voice and sing, "Great are You Lord!" I lift up my voice and say, "Worthy is my God who has come to my rescue and delivered my from my enemies." I speak from my heart, "Thank You God for all You have done in my life. Thank You for the gifts and talents You have given me. Thank You for move the stone and calling me to come out of the darkness." You are so good to me. You clean me up and position me to testify of Your goodness. I will praise You all of the days of my life in Jesus' name amen.
