When the Sun Rises

Warriors Arise: April 28, 2023

Psalms 113:3 (NKJV) From the rising of the sun to its going down

The Lord's name is to be praised.

When the sun rises what do you do? I remember seeing a cartoon drawing of a person waking up. I thought it was so funny. In the first frame, a person had rings around their eyes and hair was disheveled, more than usual and said, "Good Lord, it's morning!" Which I laughed out loud. How many times had that been me! Then I read the second frame "Good Morning, Lord!" I was stunned.

Since those two cartoon frames my attitude has changed toward getting up in the morning. I look forward to mornings. I open the curtains and want to see the sun. For the most part, I look forward to what the day holds. I may not like what the day holds, but it can't be avoided so having a bad attitude about it, doesn't motivate me the make the best of it. I am secure in knowing God is working all things out for my good (Romans 8:28). No matter if there are unexpected struggles in my day, I try to get through them as quick as possible. How can I turn it around so it doesn't steal my entire day, and maybe the next several days.

There are a couple of things that help me wake up blessing the Lord. First, I have purposed in my heart that I will not go to bed angry (Eph. 4:26). Honestly, this verse has probably helped prevent me from getting angry, because I know I will have to deal with myself, my sin before going to bed. Secondly, I spend a few moments with God seeing what He has done with me that day or for me and I praise Him. I will look over my calendar before flipping it to the next day. I see what I accomplished and what things didn't get accomplished and where God was evident in my day. I learned in leading Vacation Bible School several years ago to look for God in my day. They call them, "God Sightings." Even though I already did this, at the end of my day, looking for God Sightings from beginning to end of my day, became a treasure hunt. I wanted to see what God was doing when He was doing it. I didn't want to wait until that night when I reviewed my day to see what God had done. Sometimes I would see what I had missed, a God-opportunity I didn't participate in because I wasn't looking for God. I wanted there to be less of those. I wanted to be in the moment with God. So, it has been a precedent of mine to look for God throughout my day. I purposefully, intentionally look for God. I didn't want the only time I praise the Lord be in my time in the morning and my time just before bed. I wanted my praise to be in-the-moment. I wanted it to be when I recognized God's involvement. I wanted to praise Him from the rising of the sun to its going down. I will praise the Lord.

When the sun rises, are you ready for a new day? Do you begin your day praising the Lord? Do you anticipate seeing His involvement in your day? Do you purpose your ears to hear His lead and follow Him? Do have your eyes fixed on the Father, so you are doing what the Father is doing?

Father, I come before You this morning and praise You. Thank you for another day to see what You have for me and I listen for the invitation to be a part of sharing Your love and faithfulness, releasing compassion and joy, and walking, skipping, running with You. When I rise and praise You, it is as if You offer Your hand and my day isn't about my scheduled happenings, but about what You are taking me to, what we will do together, and the people we can touch. I love to praise You when kingdom dynamics happen. I love celebrating in the moment. I will praise You in the morning, I will praise You all day long, and I will celebrate You for what you have done, before I lay my head down to rest. You are my God, my King, my Counselor, and I will praise You from the rising of the sun to its going down in Jesus' name amen.
