Warriors Arise: August 27, 2023
Matthew 4:10-11 (NKJV) Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
We are not alone. Jesus was not alone. Jesus had the Holy Spirit with Him when He battled the devil. Yesterday, I shared while Daniel was praying there was a battle in the heavens and it took twenty one days for God's message to get to Daniel. As Scripture records, God had sent the message on the day Daniel began to pray, but the battle held up the message getting through. In Matthew, chapter four, we see the angels coming to minister to Jesus after He has won the battle. I have never thought that there might be a battle in the heavens while Jesus is being tempted by the devil. I had always thought Jesus fought this battle with only having the Holy Spirit. However, if we take into consideration Daniel's account, most likely there was a battle going on the heavens while Jesus is being tempted.
While Daniel was petitioned God for an answer, there as a battle going on in the heavens. I'm pretty sure, the same it true for Jesus. Most likely, there was a battle going on while Jesus was being tempted. Think about it. The devil, the demons' controller, has decided to pick on someone. I am sure many of them were watching their master. When the angels start to show up, even though they do not know Jesus is the Son of God, they are sure this Jesus is important to God since the angels have shown up. Let's face it, when the prey have shown up the predator can resist picking a fight. Think about a bully. When their victim is within reach of harassment, they won't pass up the opportunity. Whether the angels were already watching Jesus and the Holy Spirit commune for forty days and forty nights or the angels arrive when the devil starts to tempt Jesus, the demons would want to rumble. While their master is picking on a poor human, they are going to take their shot at the angels.
I have no doubt there was a battle in the heavens while Jesus was being tempted. I wonder if it is different for you and I? That is something to consider. If you and I knew we had angels fighting for us to stand strong in the Lord and walk righteously in the strength of Christ when we are being tempted, what would change in our attitude toward the temptation? With that mindset:
Would you resist stronger?
Would you lay back and make the angels do all the work?
Would you give a half-hearted effort?
Would you draw your sword and engage in the enemy because you realize this is a big deal?
Would you wine, "Why me? Do I have to do this again? Why can't this be a one and done win?"
Father, I come before You. To think that angels are fighting in the heavens so I can win here on earth is a shift in my mind. I am not fighting alone. I am not fighting the devil and his demons. You have sent the Holy Spirit to empower me and You have the angels fighting in the heaven as well. I pray I would plant my feet upon the solid Rock of Jesus Christ. I pray I would draw my sword, the Word of God. I pray I would stand and hold my ground. I will not give way for the enemy to take me down or get through me to the ones I love and serve. You are for me to succeed. You desire for me to resist temptation and return my focus to what You have called me to do. I am not alone in this battle. I am full of gratefulness for the back up and am encouraged to stand strong in Jesus' name amen.
