Who Do You Know?

Warriors Arise: September 16, 2022

1 Samuel 18:10-12 (NKJV) And it happened on the next day that the distressing spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied inside the house. So David played music with his hand, as at other times; but there was a spear in Saul's hand. 11 And Saul cast the spear, for he said, “I will pin David to the wall!” But David escaped his presence twice. 12 Now Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul.

Who do you know that you would say, "The Lord is with him"? Is it a rare thing? Should it be? The Israelites knew the Lord was with them, but they didn't generally identify that the Lord was with a particular individual. There are several references to the Spirit of God coming upon people. Enoch was mentioned, by name, that the Lord walked with him. We see several prophets throughout the centuries and judges but other than that, there really isn't a mention of people who were known to have the Lord with them. When Joshua looked over Jericho the Lord approached him and he asked, "Are you for us or against us?" and the Lord told him, "No." All of that is Old Testament but what about now?

Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him. He knew the Lord had departed from him. That is even scarier. It reminds me of Cain. Cain was so into himself and full of pride, that he didn't even have the good sense to be afraid that he no longer would be in the Lord's presence.

Genesis 4:10-15 (NKJV) And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground. 11 So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.” 13 And Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear! 14 Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.” 15 And the Lord said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.”

Cain had a different fear. He didn't want to die. He didn't want to be hunted down. He didn't think it was right for someone to be allowed to kill him. The irony of that is he killed his brother. What right did Cain have to kill his brother and he is upset that God's protection is no longer upon him. Totally twisted! That is how far we can get from our thoughts being aligned with God's. We are to take captive every thought that does not align with God's. As His children, He wants us to live free from the bondage of self-sufficiency. He want us to be co-heirs with Him; therefore, we are to know Him, be like Him, and walk in the presence of God throughout our day.

2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (NKJV) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Saul was afraid because he finally realized what the favor of the Lord cost him and his family line. He recognized the presence of the Lord was no longer with him. Who do you know that you would say, "The Lord is with him/her"? What evidence finally made Saul aware that the Lord was with David?

Are they worshippers of the Lord?

Did they train with the Lord in the wilderness?

Have they soothe distressing spirits?

Have they slain a giant?

Have they killed ten thousands?

Have they served faithfully under a reckless and ungodly authority?

I want the Lord with me. When He is, people should be able to recognize the Lord in my life. Recognition of the Lord in someone's life is about their worship and prayer life. It has to encompass that they have gone to battle. They have trained with the Lord and when the giant tried to take what the Lord had given to them; they fought. They faced the giant and won. They are not afraid when another battle comes up. They go to the battlelines and move the enemy who tries to steal from them, like the Philistines. They do not hesitate when there is another battle to fight. They go because the Lord is with them. They go because that is what they have been trained to do. They go because this is what people do who have the Lord with them; they fight to remain free.

Father, I pray for those who call upon You to seek You and find You. I pray they would worship You with all their heart. I pray each believer would strengthen themselves for battle. I pray we would not allow the enemy to steal from us. I pray we would not hide from the enemy, but face him. I pray we would rise up and see the enemy taking our land. I ask You to to give eyes to see where the battle is raging around us, in our own lives. I pray we would kill the lion and the bear. I pray we would be trained for battle by You. I pray we would see the injustice of Your promise stolen from us. I pray we would rise up and learn to take a stand against the enemy. I pray we would push back the enemy and You would be with us. I pray You would be evident in our lives, because we have risen to fight for the freedom, that Jesus died to give us. We will be a people group who are known, because the Lord is with us in Jesus' name amen.
