Who Has the Authority?

Warriors Arise: February 17, 2021

Daniel 5:25-28 (NKJV) “And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 26 This is the interpretation of each word. Mene: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it; 27 Tekel: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting; 28 Peres: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

I just don't know what my response would be when Daniel is speaking the interpretation. Belshazzar seems to have become non-responsive. He, the king, has allowed Daniel speak his piece without saying a word. Daniel took him to school on Babylonian history, family history and then scolded him for blasphemy toward God in using the vessels taken from Jerusalem from the temple of God. No one has said a word. Does that seem odd? Is Belshazzar bored, closed his mind or acting like a teenager when you are telling them something they don't want to hear, when their eyes get hard and gloss over. You know they can hear the words you are saying, but they have put a barrier over their mind so they don't receive what you are saying.

How is it that Daniel can speak to the king in this manner and doesn't get struck down? Are they all stunned by his authority when he is speaking? My dad is one of those who can speak and every one knows they need to listen and pay attention. He didn't have to yell to get the attention nor to assert his authority. He speaks with such passion and intensity you know he isn't making things up. He has studied, he has prepared, and he is ready to impart what he knows. When he speaks, you know he cares just as much as you do about the matter. You know he is just as vested as you are in the situation. You know he is setting you up to win, whether it be to your education, spiritually, achievement of goals, or showing you where you need to be for your life to be blessed. He isn't perfect but he loves the Lord, listens to God and speaks when he senses you will receive. He doesn't waste words and if he didn't believe in you, he wouldn't share. He shares even the hardest things that may hurt when you hear them, but they are for your good. They are for a better future. They are to position you in God's plan.

I believe Daniel, whom Belshazzar has rejected since he became king, speaks with God's heart. Daniel was given leeway here, to speak the way he did to Belshazzar because in every word Daniel spoke everyone knows he cares. Daniel is not speaking with resentment or anger but with the heart of a father to correct and call Belshazzar back to God's plan.

Even so the interpretation would rattle me to my core.

Mene: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it; 27 Tekel: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting; 28 Peres: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

Is it just me or would you be shaking in your boots? Passed out on the floor? Fainted on your throne? If I still had my whits about me I would be asking, what can I do? It is how I look at each problem. Scott will tell me some bad news and I will say, "What now?" I can't change the problem; because it has already happened, but I can change the outcome. If I was coherent upon Daniel's interpretation of the enigma, I would be asking him what do I need to do to remove the judgement of God upon my life. Can anything be done to change the outcome?

What news have you been given today? This past week? Past month? Have you asked God, "What now?" When I ask Scott, it isn't that I want him to come up with a solution. I want to know what he has heard from God. What is God's solution? Over and over and over in the Bible we see God's people in a serious predicament. When they called out to God, He delivered them. If God will heard them when they called out, why wouldn't He hear me. The answer, He does hear me. The problem, I used to whine and whine and whine some more. He doesn't want to hear me whining. He wants to hear me ask, "What now?" What you do want me to do? Where is the way out of this? Show me the open door and I will follow you.

I believe with all my heart God does not leave His people spinning our wheels, drowning in disappointment, or lost in our loss. We generally remain spinning going nowhere because we do not ask for God to help. We find it hard to breathe in disappointment because we are not breathing in the Word of God, getting life from Him. We crumble from within because of our loss because we do not sit in the Father's lap and receive His love, compassion and strength for the day as His arms wrap around us.

God does not want us to remain in defeat. He totally believes we can take back everything the enemy has stolen from us. He pulls us out of the mire and places our feet on solid ground. He turn our mourning in to gladness. He is the God who truly loves His people.

Because God took the time to write with His own finger on the wall I believe He was giving Belshazzar one more chance to repent. But Belshazzar didn't call out to God, he didn't ask Daniel what to do, he didn't ask, "What now".

Father, I pray for the hearts of the people to seek You. I pray they would see what You are doing, the judgement we have brought upon ourselves and repent. I pray we would seek to know what we are to do now. I pray we would be open to hearing from You. I ask for You to make a way out of this disaster and set our feet on high ground. I pray we would not be entangled with lies. I pray we would be willing to hear the truth and respond accordingly. I pray righteousness be restored to our nation, the executive branch, legislative branch and the judicial branch. I pray for each person employed by the government all across America to have a reckoning, know the truth and walk in the truth. I ask for the lies of the enemy to be exposed and truth to prevail. I pray You would stop the plans of the enemy. I ask for You to remove the coronavirus from our nation and our world. I ask for You to cause any other viral diseases being formulated to be killed, in Jesus' name. I pray for You to build a resistance in our body toward any deadly virus or disease. I ask for Your people and those who have rejected You their entire life to turn to You today, repent for their arrogance and sin in Jesus' name amen.
