Warriors Arise: August 11, 2023
Matthew 4:5-6 (NKJV) Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
The devil would know. He would know what the responsibility of an angel would be for the Son of God. When he was an angel, he would have to protect the Son at all cost. Nothing could happen to God's Son. I can hear Him being snarky about this, disdain in his voice, and a sharp look as he glanced sideways at Jesus.
When the devil quoted this verse, who was he hoping would show up if this truly was the Son of God? Now that Jesus was reunited with the Holy Spirit and God spoke over Him, who would be the next to arrive from heaven? So, why not test Jesus to do something that would "make" the angels have to reveal themselves.
Jesus knew this wasn't the time or the place. The devil was not going to call the shots. He was not going to decide when this battle would be fought. He was not going to decide how this battle would be fought. This was not his call. Jesus was in charge and He would do things the Father's way. This was not the enemy's decision. Jesus would not give him authority to call the shots. At this point, the devil would have gotten a clue. Jesus, just took the power he once had. Before, roaming around the earth, he was confident in calling all the shots. But this man, standing before him, would not do what he said to do. He would only do what God told Him to do. He would not position himself to show His hand by having the angels come to his aide. There would be time later to show His hands, but that would be in proof of His death and the life He continues to live.
Do you allow the enemy to call the shots? Or do you hold fast to what the Father has told you to do?
Father, I come before You and listen, causing my mind to be still so I can hear You. I want to know the Scripture You have for me. I want to realize the enemy wants me to give up the authority You have given to me. But, You, have given me strength. You have revealed Your power in me and through me. You have given me wisdom and discernment so I can see through the enemy's plans to bring harm and pain into my life. I look to You to call the shots. I will listen to the Holy Spirit to give me the Scripture that will silence the enemy and thwart his attack against me and my household. I will honor You. I will not be enticed to let the enemy determine the battle, when it will happen nor how it will happen. I will look to You and follow Your plan, operating in Your authority in Jesus' name amen.
