Who Will Know?

Warriors Arise: October 27, 2022

1 Samuel 19:18-22 (NKJV) So David fled and escaped, and went to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth. 19 Now it was told Saul, saying, “Take note, David is at Naioth in Ramah!” 20 Then Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as leader over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. 21 And when Saul was told, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. Then Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also. 22 Then he also went to Ramah, and came to the great well that is at Sechu. So he asked, and said, “Where are Samuel and David?”

Saul goes to Ramah then stops the great well at Sechu. This detail is significant. Who would have been at this great well? Yes, he could have stopped to get a drink or have his horse watered, but remember, they were only an hour from where he lived. They weren't there to get water, they were there to get information. The two groups of people who would have been at the well, were the two that would have known information. The well was a place of gathering and socializing before returning to daily tasks. The women would know the events of the city and the shepherds would have known the happenings on the countryside.

Saul did not want to be running all over the place looking for Samuel and David. He wanted an answer and he wanted it from someone who would know. How many times do we avoid going to the very place, the people group who know the answer? It seems odd to me when I find myself in a position of running here or there to get an answer that deep within I knew exactly where to go. Many times we will try something over and over again, knowing it isn't going to change, knowing we are not going to get different results. Other times we know something is working, but we refuse to go to the one who it is working for and get their answer, direction, counsel or guidance. Why do we do this? Am I really the only one? I could have saved myself months if not years of struggling on my own, doing it my own way, trying to recreate the wheel, when I just needed to seek out the one who already had a working wheel. I had to learn the hard way, because I wouldn't go to the one who knew the answer or at least where I could get the answer. There are times I have to tell myself, "Just ask them. Just go to them and ask. They are the ones having success. Go ask them." I realize it may seem silly to have to talk to myself like this, but it is true. There are times I have to tell myself to align with someone who already has the answer. When we do not ask, what eventually happens? We grow stagnate, discouraged, even apathetic. None of these are a good outcome.

Saul as in pursuit of David, not for a good or godly reason. Matter-of-fact is wasn't good at all. Sometimes people with the worst motives seem to be more focused on getting their negative, even sinful plot accomplished than a godly person trying to accomplish a God-task. Why is that? Why are we so compelled to get something done that isn't godly; but when it comes to going after and completing the God-task we want to take time to pray about it, poll the crowd, or lose focus because we just do not have the tenacity to persevere until we finish?

Maybe I am the only one who deals with this. I have to make sure I do not lose sight of what God has called me to do.

  • I have to keep my focus on Jesus and follow in His footsteps.

  • I have to lift my eyes when I fall and realign with God's purpose.

  • I have to position myself in the presence of my Father when I am discouraged.

  • I have to renew my mind in His Word and remind myself what God has said.

  • I have to go to God, the one who has the answer and will direct my path.

God is so very good. He is ready for me, waiting at the well to give me Living Water so I am strengthened to fulfill the God-task before me. I will not grow weary when I come to Him. Saul went to the water seeking information from people. He too needed Living Water. He could have been in a position of receiving information he wasn't looking for but desperately needed. He needed an encounter with the Living God.

Father, I come before You seeking Your Living Water. I desire counsel from You. I could go to people, but I first need to hear from You. You always lead me in the direction should go. There are times I am to go to people, because we are to be connected to accomplish the God-task. I do not want to be discouraged in seeking to make the wheel move fluently. I desire to roll with You. I position myself in Your presence. I seek You and follow Your Word to me. Thank You for directing my path and those You have placed in my life to go with me to accomplishing the God-task. I will lay my life down and live the life You have for me in Jesus' name amen.
