Warriors Arise: October 26, 2020
Luke 24:44-49 (NKJV) Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. 46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
We cannot take for granted what the disciples are going through. We get to read the Bible; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, in the matter of a couple of months learn a glimpse of what life was like for them. However, they are living it? They do to know where this is going to lead. Jesus tells them, "Follow Me" and they have no idea where this is leading. Before Jesus called them, they were not training to be priests. They were working jobs as fishermen, tax collector, and a zealot.
Before Jesus was crucified, He shared with them a number of times that He had to died and that He would rise on the third day. They all heard Him but what He was saying their mind could not wrap around, could not comprehend. They understood death and vowed to protect Him, adamantly telling Him this was not so, and then finally resolving to die with Him or die trying to protect Him. They had been witness to Jesus bringing Lazarus back from the dead four days after he had died. Two of them had been with Jesus when He called Tabitha from the dead to wake up and she did. They had been with Him as they passed a funeral procession when Jesus reached into the coffin touched a young man, the only son of a widow and the man sits up alive. All of these took Jesus either touching the dead and bringing them back to life or calling to them to come back to life; however, there is no record of someone dying and coming back to life on their own. Could this be why they would wrap their mind around Jesus returning from the dead in three days? If the man who brought people back form the dead is dead, then who brings the man back?
As Jesus is teaching His disciples the connection between His life and the Law of Moses. They begin to see the connection. Jesus is the perfect lamb. Death will come to all but the blood on the doorposts is the blood of Jesus. Knowing Jesus as their Lord and now their Savior, they would not see death because the other side of the blink is heaven for those who make Jesus thier Lord and Savior. The death angel could come but they would be in heaven. People needed to know Jesus as the Savior of the world, as their personal Savior. People needed to know the Passover is a representation of what is to come. We must have the blood of Jesus posted over our body, soul, and spirit just at it was painted on each side of the door and overhead.
vs. 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Why did all that happen? Why did Jesus have to go through Calvary, through the grave, and through hell to be the blood sacrifice for our sins? Because God designated this time. In order for people to be truly free from their sin and in right relationship with God, there had to be a perfect lamb, the Lamb God brought to be sacrificed, Jesus, the Lamb of God. Hebrews would bring or buy at the temple the sacrifice needed to cover their sin. It might be pigeons, lambs, grain offering etc. But these offerings were not permanent. They would have to return the next year to cleanse themselves of their sin for that year. Jesus is the Lamb of God. God brought Him to earth as our sacrifice. Jesus lived a perfect life, keeping in relationship with His Father and living as God revealed. Jesus held His Father is the highest honor. He knew His Father had the perfect plan to redeem all mankind. He knew He was the perfect, unblemished Lamb of God.
The disciples needed to comprehend the love of God and the reality of why Jesus had come to earth, why He did the miraculous, why He died on the cross, why He conquered death and hell, and why He is before them today. God so loved the world. John understood perfectly.
John 3:16-17 (NKJV) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
The disciples needed to the "why." Why did this happen? Jesus was a great teacher, He was a good man, He was a prophet telling us things we didn't know. Jesus came for one reason alone. Jesus came as the living expression of God's unquenchable love for mankind. That message had to be told to everyone, starting in Jerusalem and extending to all the earth. That word is true today as it is was for the disciples: teach repentance of sins through the blood of Jesus, offered by the love God has for all of mankind.
Father, there is life after sin. There is not a question, we are sinners. But mankind needs to understand Your perfect Lamb is enough not only to remove their sin and place them in Your family but is enough for each one to live the victorious life Jesus died and rose to give them. I pray for each person to know the One True God, to receive the love You offer through the confession of their sins and Your forgiveness. I pray for Your Word to go out throughout the land and release a move of God to give mankind the understanding they need of their sin, the courage they need to repent, humility they need to receive Your forgiveness, the power they need to overcome the enemy who wants them back, and the fullness of being an heir of the One True God. I pray for the hearts of people to search out the truth. I pray for the boldness to not allow the enemy to sidetrack them in any way. I pray for each one to see this is not the life they wanted; this is not the freedom their heart desires. I pray for each one to see the freedom they desire is the freedom Jesus offers. I pray for the Holy Spirit to teach each one the truth of Your love for all mankind. I pray each one will receive understanding and walk in it. I pray each one would choose to align themselves with You. I pray they would walk away from their life of sin, into the forgiveness You offer and testify of the love Your have shown them. No matter how deep their sin goes, Your love goes deeper. I pray their hearts would be broken by their sin and restored by Your love in Jesus' name amen.
