Why Me, God?

Warriors Arise: April 11, 2021

Daniel 6:20 (NKJV) And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?

I don't care for it, but there are times when God allows bad things to happen to us. We can wallow, cry, get depressed, and shake our fist at God, but that doesn't get us out of the situation. We can be haunted with the thought, "Why me, God?" The torment can be so overwhelming that we actually turn our face to heaven and shout, "Why me, God? What did I ever do to You! Why have You turned against me?"

Have you been there? Done that? Maybe you are more righteous than me. I call this getting real with God. Once I confess my doubts, fears, and tormenting thoughts to God, He can reach into the depth of my mind and touch my soul with His amazing love. He can reveal the lie I have believed. He may have allowed the bad thing to happen to me but it wasn't for my demise. He didn't allow it for your destruction.

Did God allow Daniel to be cast into the lion's den for Daniel to be killed?

What purpose would that have served?

Did God allow Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego to be thrown into the fiery furnace to be killed?

What purpose would that have served?

Let's think in just these two points in history where bad things happened to God's chosen people. The subtitle in my Bible when Daniel is found alive in the lion's den, Darius Honors God. Look at how Darius responds to what one man has done in his faithfulness to God and what God has done in His faithfulness to one man.

Daniel 6:25-28 (NKJV) Then King Darius wrote: To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you. 26 I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God, And steadfast forever; His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed, And His dominion shall endure to the end. 27 He delivers and rescues, And He works signs and wonders In heaven and on earth, Who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. 28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Darius sent this out to ALL the people, ALL the nations, and ALL the languages that dwell in all the earth!!! EVERYONE heard what God had done through Daniel. EVERYONE heard of the living God!

People if you aren't excited I'm not sure if you are alive. Maybe you are breathing but are you alive spiritually? Because this should cause you to jump up and shout, "Hallelujah!" God is so very good! God is NOT out to get you. God is NOT out to punish you. God is NOT out to ruin your life. God is NOT out to cause you to lose everything. But what God does do, is use bad situations to make His name known all over the earth!

If you find yourself in a bad situation then position yourself before God and He will bring you through. He will promote you for His name's sake. His love will extend to all the ends of the earth. His wisdom will be known by all. His goodness will be available to all. Turn your face to heaven and see the salvation of the Lord. He is coming to bring You up out of the darkness and into HIs glorious light. He is looking for the faithful who will not cower in the face of the threats of the enemy. How many times does Jesus ask when He returns will He find faith among the people? Will you be faithful? Even in the bad situation? Daniel wasn't the first and he is the last one to have faced a bad situation. We will have our opportunity to live in faith, to believe God to deliver us, and walk in the fullness of all He has for us when we position ourselves in the presence of God, worshipping Him and putting no idle before us.

Daniel 3:8-18 (NKJV) Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and accused the Jews. 9 They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever! 10 You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image; 11 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 12 There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.” Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? 15 Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

These three inspire me to stir up my faith when bad situations come my way! They are standing before Nebuchadnezzar, who everyone knows is a lunatic when he is mad, and answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” Did you see that? "Even if not, we will not serve your gods." That is suicide and everyone there knows it!

They were declaring God is able to deliver them but if He choose not to, we will not worship your images of gold. That is some kind of nerve. They had faithfulness to God in spades! Talk about unwavering! These three men did not waver!

So what happens? They go into the fire, walk in the fire, and are called out of the fire. Could you imagine? Talk about, turn up the heat! We have no idea how hot it was. The soldiers taking them to the furnace died outside of the furnace. There would have been no oxygen because of the heat. Do you see the miracle started before they were even in the fire?

Daniel 3:26-30 (NKJV) Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire. 27 And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king's counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them. 28 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! 29 Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this.” 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon.

When we are promoted we aren't saying, "Why me, God?" Nope, we are delighted to have gotten through the bad situation and see the awesomeness of our God. We see His name be glorified and the wondrous acts of God known by all people throughout all the nations in every tongue.

Father, You are amazing in all of Your ways! You are holy and just. You are awesome in power. The fullness of Your love reaches every person, every nation, and every tongue. Your name is to be glorified. We will lift Your name on high. We will praise You for Your ways are wondrous, they are beyond my comprehension. I pray for Your love to bring freedom to the captives. I pray for Your peace to remove anger, frustration and malice. I pray for the joy of the Lord to rise up and be our strength. We will declare the goodness of all that You have been in our lives, all that You are and all that You have promised for You are good and there is no one like You. I will worship You all of the days of my life in Jesus' name amen!
