Warriors Arise: May 9, 2023
1 Samuel 1:10-18 (NKJV) And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” 12 And it happened, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli watched her mouth. 13 Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. 14 So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!” 15 But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. 16 Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.” 17 Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.” 18 And she said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
Her prayers to the Lord for a baby are compelling. I have heard and now they print frames you can hang on your wall that quote something mentioned later in 1 Samuel 1, "For this child I have prayed." Honestly, I didn't pray to conceive a child, but once I knew I was pregnant then my prayers began. Daily I would lay hands on my belly and pray for the baby growing inside of me. I truly believe we should pray for our baby before conception, during their growth in the womb and delivery; however, why stop there? Those are definitely good prayers; however, they are to develop your prayer life for your baby that will continue for the rest of your life.
Hannah is sobbing, she is crying out to the Lord for her desire. She wants a baby. She goes to the Lord, to the tabernacle, and is so distraught in her prayers the priest thinks she is drunk and out of her mind. Have you prayed like that for your child? So many parents are upset and worried over their children, especially adult children, but are they compelled to pray for their walk with Jesus as they prayed for their conception, growth in the womb, and delivery?
I do not ask the questions for condemnation or judgment. They are convicting to me. I used to go into my children's bedrooms and pray over each one of them every night. I "made the rounds." I was kicked out of the habit, because of a life circumstance and never got back to it consistently. I pray every day for my children, but the night time prayer after they are asleep is truly my favorite. Watching them as they sleep and listening to the Lord to know what to pray for them has been difficult. Sometimes they are still up doing homework or taking showers or their bedtime routine and I don't want to wait around. I have had to find a different time, but honestly, the night time when they are asleep is truly my favorite. It is so peaceful and the easiest time for me to hear clearly from the Lord. I love to watch them sleep and have their body relaxed and at peace. I still go in at night.
I would like to encourage you to pray over your children, no matter what age, no matter what situation they are in. Everything may be going excellent, without flaw, but that doesn't mean it will forever. They need our prayers. The Lord will speak to You and I. He will tell us to pray for things not to worry us, but to ward off the enemy or at least make the blow a little easier; because we prayed. Your children may be struggling right now and you need to pray like Hannah. You need to allow yourself to pray from the depth of your soul and spirit. You may need to pray and it isn't going to be pretty. You might be shaking your fist and having snot running down your face. That is perfectly fine. Get engaged with your prayers. War for your children. Tell the enemy to go and release God to meet them and intervene on their behalf. Pray for your children.
Father, I come before You today. I petition You for Your intervention. I ask for You to meet with each one of my children. I pray they would know your voice and listen. I pray they would see you opening doors and they would walk through. I pray they would flee from the enemy or use the Word to knock him down. I pray they would be free from the clutches of the enemy. I pray they would not be afraid to stomp all over the devil. I ask for You to give them courage to walk with You. I ask for You to remind them of all the times You turned things in their favor. I ask for You to reveal yourself to them. I pray each one would walk according to Your will and fulfill their destiny. I pray they would not give allegiance to another. I ask for You to flood them with Your love, surround them with Your wisdom, and cover them with Your protection. I ask for each one of my children to be in relationship with You. I pray their heart would beat to please You and walk according to Your ways. I pray they would not give thier love to another. I pray they would seek You and not live their lives according to the desires of the flesh. I ask for purity and wholeness. I pray you would bring people around them who will direct them to You. I ask for each one to know You and walk with You all the days of their lives in Jesus' name amen.
