Warriors Arise: January 5, 2021
Joshua 3:11-16 (NKJV) Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before you into the Jordan. 12 Now therefore, take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from every tribe. 13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap.14 So it was, when the people set out from their camp to cross over the Jordan, with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, 15 and as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest), 16 that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away at Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan. So the waters that went down into the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
Sometimes I can be so excited about something, I tell you the same thing again a different way, or add details I forgot the first time. When I read the above passage I have wondered, "Why are they restating things?" I guess they were amazed. It wasn't just that the water piles up in a heap 200 meters away but when the author tells it the second time, he says the water backed up to Adam! My study Bible says that is about 18 miles upstream!!!
I am not sure I can even comprehend that! Think of a place 18 miles away. The water went backward 18 miles! Then it was piled in a heap! It had to rise up because it was being pushed back. That is something to think about.
What is the miracle You need God into release from heaven? The children of Israel had to get across, the time was now, the floodwaters were over the banks and God says get ready we are going across. You look at it and say, "Ok, but I have no idea how this is going to happen."
That is what God wants us to do. Get ready for the miraculous. Get yourself, your things, your family ready for the miracle He is going to do to get you to where he wants you to go. He is going to do the miracle of opening the door. You be ready to walk through.
I am convinced the author states this twice because he wants you and I to know how incredible this miracle was. It was the same and different from 40 years earlier. This time not only did the water part but God pushed it up river 18 miles!
What do you need God to part so you can get through? How far does the door need to be open so you know this is the door God wants you to take? Now that I am a more familiar with God's ways, I can look back in my life and realize where He had opened doors for me. Some I didn't take and asked for a second chance. Others I took and received all God has ready for me on the other side. Right now, what do You need God to do?
Generally, we get focused on a little thing that we miss the big thing. Or we could be complaining, I don't have a cart to carry my stuff. So we stay put hoping God will send someone back to get our stuff so we can cross. Are you ready to cross or not? When God opens the door will you cross even if you have to carry all your stuff?
Father, there have been a number of times I have focused on the little things, waiting for You to open doors, part the waters, make the crooked places straight. I want to be ready when You do these things. I want to be positioned to cross the river, pass over the threshold and walk the path You have placed before me. I ask for my heart to be ready, my mind to be alert to Your move, and body to be conditioned for the task before me. I look for You and follow where You are. I pray for Your people to listen to You, prepare their hearts to walk across the river. I pray we would honor You with our YES. I pray we would be prepared, moving forward with You. I ask for You awaken the hearts of the people of America to your leading. I pray each one would acknowledge You and Your ways. I pray we would not live life according to our own plan but we would chose You and Your ways. We would chose life for all people. I pray we would chose justice. I pray we would chose righteousness and brotherly kindness. I pray we would chose wisdom instead of ignorance. I pray we would chose the truth instead of the lie. I pray we would chose what is right one what we want. I pray for Your people to sanctify themselves and be ready to walk across no matter how the miracle comes. I pray we would seek to have Your will hear on earth as it is in heaven. I pray we would seek You to lead us in Jesus' name amen.
