Yes, the Good News

Warriors Arise: March 30, 2023

1 Chronicles 16:7-23 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:

8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!

Call upon His name;

Make known His deeds among the peoples!

9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;

Talk of all His wondrous works!

10 Glory in His holy name;

Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!

11 Seek the Lord and His strength;

Seek His face evermore!

12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,

His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

13 O seed of Israel His servant,

You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

14 He is the Lord our God;

His judgments are in all the earth.

15 Remember His covenant forever,

The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,

16 The covenant which He made with Abraham,

And His oath to Isaac,

17 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,

To Israel for an everlasting covenant,

18 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan

As the allotment of your inheritance,”

19 When you were few in number,

Indeed very few, and strangers in it.

20 When they went from one nation to another,

And from one kingdom to another people,

21 He permitted no man to do them wrong;

Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,

22 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,

And do My prophets no harm.”

23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth;

Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

It had been hundreds of years since their ancestors were enslaved in Egypt, to what good news is David referring? What is the salvation they are to proclaim? By saying, "His" salvation, that shows ownership. This is God's salvation. What has God done that would give him ownership of salvation in your life?

When David is saying this there is little written of a coming Messiah, a Christ that would save them from their sins. There could be so many implications to this one phrase, "Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day." As my husband and I were driving, we were discussing this. Was David speaking forth as a prophet? If so, did he know he was prophesying about the coming Messiah, the Savior of all mankind? Whenever I hear "share the good news, proclaim the good news, or give testimony of the good news" I think it should always lead to Salvation, to what Jesus did to make a way for all to have the opportunity to be in relationship with His Father; through the confession of sin, belief that He came from heaven through a virgin, lived without sin, received the Holy Spirit upon baptism, died on the cross for their sins, rose from the grave, and is sitting at the right hand of the Father. This is "the good news," I have learned. But David is pre-Jesus, pre-Messiah, pre-Emmanuel, by a thousand years or more.

Maybe David was wanting the people to tell those, who didn't come, about the return of the ark of God to the tabernacle. Maybe that is the good news he is referring to. Maybe they were to tell everyone God had returned to all of His people. They are no longer without God. God has been brought back to His place, to be center in their land and now He is to be center in their lives. That is good news. There is definitely a sense of salvation when You know God is center in your life, in your home, in your country.

Father, thank You for You Word. Thank you for having the heritage of your people recorded. In my own life, I seek to have You be center. I seek You to know Your goodness and the great news of Your amazing love. There are times Your presence is beyond words, but I know everything is going to be ok; because You are with me, You are my center. I know You will minister to my broken heart. You will set me free when a situation has held me captive and You will restore what has been taken. You are my God and You are center in my life. I will keep You as center. You are the good news I will proclaim. You are with me each and every day. I will honor You in Jesus' name amen.
