You Can't Fix That!

Warriors Arise: December 11, 2021

Isaiah 61:1-3 (NKJV) “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

"You can't fix that!" those words have come out of my mouth. I taught my kids in art that there is never a mistake. It may not be in the original plan; however, generally speaking you can cover up a mistake by adding something else to the picture or painting. If you don't tell the person you are giving it to, they will never know that the picture did not turn out as intended.

Jesus came to demonstrate the impossible made possible. Another reason we celebrate the birthday of Jesus! He showed us God redeems us from the mistakes we have made, the sins we have committed and removes the enemy who controls us. Do you believe Matthew 19:26 is just as valid today as it was when Jesus told the rich young ruler? Let's look at how Jesus displayed truth over the hopeless idea, "You can't fix that; no one can."

Mark 9:14-27 (NKJV) And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them. 15 Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him. 16 And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?” 17 Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. 18 And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.” 19 He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” 20 Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” 26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.

The father was brokenhearted. The disciples had tried and they could not free his son from demonic control. Jesus came from spending time with the Father and asked what is going on. The father mustered up all the faith he could. It isn't that the father hadn't believed for his son's deliverance, but to try one more time. One more ounce of belief. Even though His disciples couldn't, just maybe He would. Maybe Jesus could fix what no one else could.

The father heard what Jesus said and responded with every bit of belief he had. He is uncertain he has enough; however, in his desperation he asked Jesus to help his unbelief. He wanted to believe but evidence of past asking said, "No one can fix this." His heart was broken and Jesus gave belief to the father, restoring His broken heart and followed it up by demonstrating the love of God through power over the demonic control in his son's life.

Jesus mended the father's broken heart by demonstrating the love of God.

Father, I celebrate Jesus today and look forward to Christmas. I remember the countless times of His demonstrative power of love to heal, restore, and redeem gave hope to my life and faith to purse my dreams. The past would not hold me back any longer. Jesus healed my heart to believe again, to beat again. Just like lungs need air, my heart needed to believe. Jesus healed my broken heart and mended it with hope, faith and love. I will celebrate today and His birthday for all the times I remember He healed my broken heart. I will celebrate Jesus because He can fix me every time! You are worthy of my praise, I will lift Your name on high in Jesus' name amen.
